+ The next Chamber of Commerce Board Meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 8 a.m. at the Visitors Center on Shether Street.

+ The Steuben County Youth in Government meets Tuesday, Feb. 27 in Bath's County Legislative South Conference Room. Students will meet at 8:30 a.m. for a Review/Turn in Journal Reports, at 9 a.m., there will be a tour of the Public Safety Building by Sheriff Tweddell. At l0:30 a.m. a tour of the Health Care Facility by Mr. Zehr is followed by lunch. In the afternoon at l2:35 p.m. Mr. Sprague and Mr.Wixon will take the students to see Emergency Services and 911 before they leave for the day. Supervising the teens this day will be Bob Sestak, retired Guidance Counselor from Campbell Central School for Richard McCandless, r e t i r e d Hammondsport Central School teacher, who is recovering from recent surgery.

Hammondsport Central School is proud to announce Spring 2007 Adult Edication Classes. The cost for each course taken is $20 for all attendees with all adults welcome. Call 569-

5200 x.5332 for more information. First course offered is Introduction to Computers Mondays and Wednesdays 6-8 p.m. Feb. 26, 28 and March 5, 7. Taught by Shelayne Sprague/Wise. Second course takes place Tuesdays, Feb. 27 and Thursdays March l, 6 and 8 and is Introduction to Microsoft Word: 6-8 p.m. with Jan Harrington, Instructor, teaching basic word processing skills such as formatting text, bullets, numbering, spell check, printing, opening and saving files, tabs, and basic tables. Other classes will be announced here as they are started in March and April in other computer skills like Introduction to Compters 2, Basic Computers Repair; Introduction to Office 2003, Digital, Photography and Scanning and Photo Story3 all on Mondays and Wednes days.

With Prom season coming up, Trooper Brown, Hammondsport Central School Resource Officer, parents and adults are reminded of civil and criminal consequences of having underage drinking parties for their children. Adults can be charged with a variety

of misdemeanors and even feloning, if death or injury takes place. Among those charges may be unlawfully dealing with a child and endangering the welfare of a child, at a minimum. A child who is injured or killed as a result of the provider can be charged with with reckless assault, man slaughter or negligent homicide, says Brown. Also he precludes civil suits can be attached to property or income. Study or know the law\s to protect the kids and your self is his good advice. And, on another part of the proms, from Jan. 30 to Feb. 9, "The Formal Closet" will be open at the school between the hours of 2:30-3:30 p.m. One may try things on at the school or take them home to try one. For those who find something they like it is theirs. (One outfit per customer) The Parent Teacher Organization will handle any dry cleaning or mending that might be needed and will also make minor alterations such as hemming or adjusting straps.

+ Curtiss Museum, one of the largest attractions in the village both summer and winter is also aways taking in new members.

There are six categories of membership choices starting with Individual at $35 to Benefactor at $1,000. It is all up to the one joining but here are some membership benefits: Unlimited f r e e a d m i s s i o n , Subscription to the museum newsletter, Discounts on museum programs and events, Guest passes, Invitations to exhibit openings and receptions, Volunteer opportunities, 10% discount in the museum shop.

Church news:

+ First United Methodist Church: Lent began Feb. 21, Ash Wednesday. The churches in the community and area began their Lenten Services that day at St. James Episcopal Church with the new Pastoral Administrator at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Maureen O'Neil bringing the message at l2 noon. The Methodists are planning a Lenten series on Wednesday evenings. They will begin with a pot-luck supper around 5:30 p.m. and then watch a 30 minute video with R.C. Sprout teaching on the "The Majesty of Christ." Pastor Paul Rowlings says that members are able to bring

renewal to their lives through a Lenten Devotional and he has ordered a booklet with daily meditations. He feels that as persons set aside some special times during the Lenten season "it will become a time of deeper insight to the suffering of Jesus and a time of renewal in our walk with him."

+ First Presbyterian Churchs' Pulteney, 9:30 a.m.; Hammondsport church, 11 a.m. A Public announcent for both churches: The Rochester Jazz Musicians called "A Touch of Brass" return to the Hammondsport Church on Sunday, Feb. 25 to give another concert. It is open to the public. Join the church for a special worship. Come earlier to enjoy a public pancake breakfast, headed up by Robert Domras. There will be a free will offering for th food from 8-11 a.m.

+St. Gabriel's Catholic Church: Feb. Altar Care is in charge of Ellie Drain/Mary Ellen Peck. The S m a l l C h r i s t i a n Community at St. Gabriel's wants you. Even if you never belonged to it, their Lenten program is designed to allow you to join in. They will meet for the first time, today, Feb. 25 after the ll a.m. Mass and then will meet each Sunday of Lent in McGill Hall to hear a presentation on a different book on spirituality. Whether you've read it or not you are welcome to come. Save the date of March 3, 5-7 p.m. for the Pasta Buffet, St. Mary's, Bath to benefit the Health Ministry of the Southern Tier-Bath Community Care Center. See Laura Opelt/Dona Rickard for tickets. A Retreat for men of St. Gabriel's takes place at the end of this week on March 2-4 at the Notre Dame Retreat House in Canandaigua. Theme of this years retreat is " Hearer's of the Word."
