Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary of Unit 173 meets every second Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Charles Wescott Post on William Streeet in Bath.

SPCA donations

The Finger Lakes SPCA is requesting area residents to continue donating returnable cans and bottles to the shelter on State Route 54. The recyclable materials are a significant source of income for the SPCA.

Volunteers also are needed to assist in the delivery of returnable materials to recycling centers and in walking dogs and cleaning facilities. For further information, call 776-3039. GST Boces course catalog

The winter/spring course catalog for GST Boces Adult Education and Training programs is now available. The catalog contains descriptions of the more than 265 courses offered, including career training, online and leisure courses and trips.

AAUW meeting

The Bath Branch of AAUW will host a visiting scholar from the New York State Council on the Humanities at a public meeting at 7:15 p.m. March 6 at the Steuben Health Facility.

Dr. Sally Roesch Wagner will discuss research on the influence of the Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) on Early American Women's Rights, and respond to questions and comments. The meeting is free to the public. Communicating problems?

The Center for Dispute Settlement is offering a free service to Steuben County residents to help with communication skills. The service is for residents under the age of 21. Services are confidential and a neutral person is available to help individuals.

The Hammondsport American Legion Auxiliary Unit 0407 will meet at 2 p.m. of the first Sunday every month at The Hammondsport American Legion, Rt. 54. Texas Hold Em Tournaments

Corning Community College's Small Business Development Center offers free and confidential counseling to start-up, existing and home-based businesses. Help is available on business plans, start-up steps, loan requirements, cash flow projections, sources of funding, record keeping, marketing, hiring employees, and the certification process as a woman or minority-owned business.

The Corning VFW Post will sponsor a chicken buscuit dinner for the benefit of the Greater Steuben Chapter American Red Cross Youth Program. The dinner will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. March 8 at the VFW, 281 Baker Street. The cost is $6 per person and take outs will be available.

Tickets will be available at the door or from the American Red Cross, 123 W. Market St., Corning. All proceeds will benefit the Greater Steuben Chapter American Red Cross youth programs.

Parents of eighth-graders are invited to attend a scheduling night at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 27 in the Middle School cafeteria.

Middle School staff including Principal, Michael Siebert and Guidance Counselor, Danielle Rice will be on hand to discuss graduation requirements, the scheduling process, fouryear plans, High School curriculum and the Career Decision Making Scale.

Following the presentation, there will be time for questions. Refreshments will be served. Pburgh Pre- Kindergarten program

Children in the Prattsburgh School District who will be four years old by Dec. 1, 2007 may be eligible for the Pre-Kindergarten program at Prattsburgh Central School.

EMT classes

Rural Health Community Systems, Inc. will offer Level II Emergency Medical Service classes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 10 and 24 at the Bath Ambulance Garage, 110 E. Steuben Street. Bath. Hammondsport- Kindergarten Registration for the 2007-2008 school year will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Hammondsport Primary School in the Primary Library.

To register, parents will need to show documentation that their child will be at least five years old by Dec. 1, 2007 (a birth certificate) and provide the child's immunization record. The immunizations required for public school attendance must be completed before entering school. Senior Citizen bus trip

A Senior Citizen bus trip to the Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack will be on March 16. The trip includes a buffet lunch and a show (Irish Music), as well as gambling at the Casino.

Sign ups will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Municipal Building, Bath.

Can and bottle drive

The ACS Post Prom Committee of Avoca Central School will hold a can and bottle drive from 8 a.m. to noon March 24 at the drop off at the Avoca Central School Cafeteria. This event is a fundraiser to offset the cost of putting on the post prom party.

"Touch of Brass"

Hammondsport's Presbyterian Church on the Square will host the group of Rochester Jazz Musicians called "Touch of Brass" at 11 a.m. Feb. 25. Come earlier to enjoy a public pancake breakfast at the church from 8-10:30 a.m. for a free will offering.

Cornell University Cooperative Extension of Stueben County will hold the 2007 Crop Symposium from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Civil Defense Center, Route 54N, Bath. Parents of all in-coming kindergarten students are encouraged to attend an informational meeting on March 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the Vernon E. Wightman Primary School cafeteria.

to start school in the 2007-08 school year.

The Single Adult Fellowship will present a dance at 7:30 p.m. March 3 featuring live music by Kaye Band at the First Presbyterian Methodist Church, Painted Post. The dance is open to all divorced, widowed, separated or never married. Must be 21 years of age or older.

Disabled American Veterans meeting

Disabled American Veterans, Kimble Kowalski Chapter 7, will hold it's monthly meeting at 7 p.m. March 5 at the Bath VA Medical Center, 3rd Floor Conference Room. New members welcome. Current members encouraged to attend.

Opera comes to town

Third-graders from Vernon E. Wightman Primary School and Tri-Cities Opera Co. will present The Toy Shop, a contemporary children's opera by Seymour Barab, on March 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the Haverling High School auditorium. The production is free to the public.

Haverling musical

The Haverling Class of 2007 will present Carousel March 23 and 24 at 8:00 p.m. in the High School auditorium. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens and $5 for students, and are available from any cast member, in the High School office.
