Slacker Dental Student Gets the Boot!

"Donald! Hurry up. The advanced root canal seminar is starting," Crystal called out to her boyfriend.

They were both in their 4th year of Dentistry.

"Sounds like fun, but I think I'd rather go play bridge in the lounge."

"Donald!"

"Oh Crystal, seen one root canal, seen 'em all."

Crystal glared back. "You've failed a lot of courses. You were on probation last year…"

"You worry too much." Donald gave her a kiss.

Crystal rolled her eyes. "Just don't forget your meeting at 3 pm with the Academic Committee…"

Donald and his bridge buddies played non-stop right into the afternoon.

Crystal appeared after the seminar. "You're still here? The meeting starts in 5 minutes!"

Donald kept shuffling the cards.

"The Academic Committee is deciding your future TODAY! This meeting is your only chance. You've been a real mess. The Faculty even set up tutorial classes to help you pass your final year. And you've missed them all!"Donald continued playing the hand. "Oh Crystal, I'd flunk out just to be free of your whining. Besides, they can't just throw me out without following proper procedure. Now let's get on with the game."

Crystal was red-faced. "I've had it. You can mess up your life in peace." She stormed out.

At that same moment, the Academic Committee was having an intense meeting - without Donald.

"Even if Donald got straight A's from now on, his average wouldn't be high enough to graduate within the prescribed 5 year limit."

The Dean was concerned. "What about the procedures - like giving notice?"

The Committee shouted down his objections. "Forget procedures. We've given Donald every chance. The guy's out."

Donald was so upset about the way he was kicked out, he sued the Faculty of Dentistry. IN THE COURTROOM

Donald was flushed with anger. "Your Honor, I was kicked out because the Faculty didn't like me. They've got regulations which govern procedures. That's like a contract, which they broke when they didn't follow those procedures. Make them pay me for not honoring our contract."

The Dean spoke up, "We warned Donald that this would happen if he didn't get his act together. The Dentistry degree must be completed within five years. With Donald's record, it was impossible for him to graduate within that time frame. We gave Donald every opportunity, but he wasn't interested."

Should the Faculty have to pay for kicking Donald out? YOU! Be The Judge. Then, look below for the decision.

THE DECISION

"Sorry Donald, the Faculty doesn't owe you," the Judge decided. "You got ample warning. You just couldn't be bothered to save your future even when given unlimited opportunities. The procedures of the Faculty are guidelines, not a contract."
