Lilah M. Arnold AVOCA - Lilah M. Arnold, 89, of 19 N. Maple Ave., died Sunday morning, Feb. 18, at the Taylor Health Center in Bath. Born in Wheeler on Oct. 8, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Clarence J. and Jennie M. Gray Smalt. On Feb. 29, 1936, she was married in Hornell to Alexander "Bud" Arnold, who survives. A graduate of Avoca High School, Lilah assisted her husband in the operation of the Arnold Insurance Agency in Avoca. Lilah was a member of the Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered over 3,500 hours at the hospital. She also served as Deputy Town Clerk in Avoca for many years. Her family includes her husband of 71 years Alexander "Bud"; her two daughters, Virginia K. Horne of South Carolina and Barbara Lynn Smith of California; her two granddaughters, Kristin Smith - Jenkins and Susan Wise and her grandson, Jeff Smith. Calling hours were from 1- 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, where a funeral and committal service were held following calling hours at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Sande Thomas officiating. Interment was held in Highland Cemetery, Avoca.
