HAMMONDSPORT HAPPENINGS

+ If you are reading this early Sunday morning remember, this is the first year in the change of Daylight Savings new time change! If you altered clocks last night, March l0, before you went to bed, you are all right! If you didn't, change them now!

+ At a recent Rotary Club meeting at the Park Inn Hotel, Speaker of the Evening was Robert Yatt. Yatt talked about writing his recent book which tells the history of the Bath Veterans Association.

+ When school opens tomorrow, March l2, it is tests, tests, from Monday through Friday, the l6 for grades 6 though 8 as follows: Monday the l2: 7th- 8th Grade NYS Math Exam; Tuesday, the 13, 6-7- 8 grades NYS Math going on through Wednesday the l4 Thursday, the l5; also on Thursday, there is music in the school 7-through l2th grade concert 7:30 p.m. Friday, the l6 7- 8th NYS Math Test plus All Country at Corning West, the 6th Grade Band, Junior

Cheer and Dance Championships. The Varsity Cheerleaders have made it to third place before but on this January 27 the girls bested the second place team, perennial powerhouse Genesee by 24 points to take home first place honors! Competition consisted of a two minute 30 second halftime routine, judged on technical skills precision, spacing, jumps, voice projection, tembline, timeing and the overall effect. Couch Ami Cornell declared in the February Laker Liners that "We have a more complex routine than before and it is much more polishedl." To which we all could say, "Very, very polished and the commity is so proud of them. The group was awarded the championship trophy and each girl was given a championship patch for her jacket! And, also cheers to the JV Cheerleaders who defeated 10 other schools in the county to win the SCHSAA Cheer Championship on January 29! This county has been around for six years but the Hammondsport Central

said Ms Cornell. The team received a trophy and each girl a first place ribbon.

Adult Education class courses: Intermediate Micosoft Word, 6-8 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, March l3, l5, 20, 22, Instructor Jan Harrington; After completing this class, one will know how to create eye catching title pagers with word art, use bulleted lists, customise tables and charts, insert symbols and clip art copy and paste grapic images from the

Internet and how to create envelopes and labels. Introduction to Computers 2, 6-8 p.m. March l2,14,19,21 S h e l a yne Sprague/Wise Instructor. This course is designed for the intermediate computeruser, working with e-mail, Internet, different functions of the computer, and basic troubleshooting. Cost: $20 per class. Questions? + Wine Country Senior Citizens meet for dinner, a program and fellowship on Tuesday, March l3 at 5:30

+ The Ecumenical Noon Lenten Service for Wednesday, March 14 is at the Presbyterian Church on the Village Square. Lunch will follow the meditation presented by the Rev. Sandra Curtis, St. James Church in the undercroft.

+ St. Gabriel's Catholic Church: Today, March ll S m a l l C h r i s t i a n Community is studing a book by Thomas Merton right after ll a.m. Mass. Fred and Betty White are leading this morning's message from Merton's selective writings by this master of contemplative prayer. Save next Sunday, March 18 at the annual St.Patrick's Day supper at 5 p.m. In the church all. Patty Shippee, c hair, Special Events, has got Tim Sanphy to provide the musicl. + St. James Episcopal Church: The weekday service of Eucharists is being held each Thursday -12:15

Shortly before Christmas, a f t e r S t . J ames Eucharist,the church held a special get together to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Tom Williams ordination to the Deaconate with a delicious brunch and enjoyed a great time of fellowship. Tom sent his sincere thanks to everone who helped make it a wonderful day for him.

+ First Presbyterian Church: More from the r e c e n t a n n u a l Congregational Meeting for 2006. Sharon Schied of the choir thank the choir for their dedicated service. A special thanks to Fran Baisch for her past faithfulness as a member and now spectator. As of 2006 there were no children in the church so there was no Sunday School report. There is an Adult Bible Study on Sunday mornings with leader Jim Walling and a group of faithful followers. Videos are followed by discussion after. Biblical stories are viewed in different context than usual and all find this rewarding. A Deacon's Report was given.

+ First United Methodist Church: Each Wednesday night during Lent at 5:30 p.m., the church is holding a potluck dinner, followed by a video at 6 p.m. as they explore "The Majesty of Christ" wr itten by R.C.Sproul who explores the majesty of the savior and seeks to enlarge the understanding of the various titles He is given: The Messiah. Son of God. The Alpha and the Omega, etc. This is for all members. Please bring table service and a dish to share. The United Methist Women will hold their Quarterly Meeting, Saturday, March l7 with a light breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Diane Albright will be reporting on her mission experiences in Mississippi.
