Bath, Addison wrestlers help winning cause ALBANY - By placing at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association wrestling championships Saturday, March 3, wrestlers from Bath Haverling and Addison contributed to the cause. The cause was Section V's domination in both Division I and Division II at the state meet at the Times Union Center. Thanks in part to a thirdplace finish from Bath's Tony Viselli at 189 pounds, a fourth-place showing from Ram teammate Bryant Madigan (275) and a sixth-place result from Addison's Loran Hively (275), Section V ran away with the Division II team title. "Section V guys did unbelievable," Addison head coach Frank Bielski said. "We have multiple placefinishers in almost every weight class. It's gonna be the talk of New York state." Making his first-ever trip to states, Hively lost a 6-4 decision to Section II's Donnie McBride to solidify his sixth-place finish. Hively posted a 2-0 decision of Section IV's Tony Scarsella, pinned Section III's Jeremy Doxstader in 2:40 and pinned Section VI's Sam Montesanti in 1:58. "He wrestled much more aggressive than he ever wrestled before," Bielski said. "He wrestled much more in tense than I've seen him wrestled." Hively is just the second Addison wrestler in school history to place at the state meet. Mike Thompson took fourth at 145 pounds three years ago. |
