Dormann Library Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees of the Dormann Library will hold their next monthly meeting at 5 p.m. April 9 in the Empire Room of the Library Building at 101 West Morris Street. Bath.

EMT classes

Rural Health Community Systems, Inc. will offer Level II Emergency Medical Service classes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 24 at the Bath Ambulance Garage, 110 E. Steuben Street. Bath. The course - Advanced Management Skills - is offered through the professional instructors at JET, Inc. Tuition is free for registered Steuben County EMS providers. Can and bottle drive

The ACS Post Prom Committee of Avoca Central School will hold a can and bottle drive from 8 a.m. to noon March 24 at the drop off at the Avoca Central School Cafeteria. This event is a fundraiser to offset the cost of putting on the post prom party. Harlem Wizards vs. Rowdy Rams

Harlem Wizards vs. Rowdy Rams will be held at 1 p.m. March 18 at the Haverling Athletic Complex. The event is presented by the Haverling Rams Sports Club. Tickets are $10 per person in advance and $12 at the door. Parents of all in-coming kindergarten students are encouraged to attend an informational meeting on March 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the Vernon E. Wightman Primary School cafeteria.

Kindergarten registration packets will be available that evening.

Children who will be fiveyears old on or before December 1, 2007 are eligible to start school in the 2007-08 school year.

If your child will be eligible to enter kindergarten in September, please call the school at 776-4123 ext. 5110 to ensure that your child's name and address are on the eligibility list.

Kindergarten registration will be held May 7-11.

Haverling musical

The Haverling Class of 2007 will present Carousel March 23 and 24 at 8 p.m. in the High School auditorium. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens and $5 for students, and are available from any cast member, in the High School office. Cancer kickball tournament

The 4th annual Billy Apenowich Memorial Kick Cancer Kickball Tournament will be held Sunday, June 3 at the Bath soccer complex. This is a fun filled all day event. Teams consist of 8-12 players, half adults and half under the age of 14.

"Just Desserts"

Corner Traveling Players will present "Just Desserts," an audience participation mystery at 7:30 p.m. March 31 and 2 p.m. April 1 at The Old National Hotel, 13 E. Steuben St., Bath. Desserts,

tea, coffee and hot chocolate will be served at intermission and a cash bar will be available. Tickets are $25 for couples and $15 for singles. Tickets will be on sale at Longwell Lumber Co., or call 664-1207, 776-4313 or 776-5114. This event is to benefit the 'Save-The-Lyon' commission. Spring story programs

The Dormann Library will begin its Spring story programs starting March 19. New this year will be a program for children under three and their parent/ caregiver. This program is held on Mondays from 10:30-11:00 a.m. The dates will be March 19-June 11. Songs, rhymes, and simple stories will be presented.

The preschool story hour is for ages three-five. This program will be on Wednesdays from 10:30- 11:30 a.m. The dates will be March 21-June 13. Each week has a special theme with stories, songs, games, and a craft.

Ten free trees

Ten Free white flowering dogwood trees will be given to each person who joins The National Arbor Day Foundation during March 2007.

The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting between March 1 and May 31 with enclosed planting instructions. The replaced free of charge.

Members also receive a subscription to Arbor Day, the Foundation's monthly publication, and The Tree Book with information about tree planting and care.

To become a member of the Foundation and receive the free trees, send a $10 contribution to Ten Free Dogwood Trees, National Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Avenue, Nebraska City, NE 68410, by March 31. Or join online at www.arborday.org.

Recruitment fair

The Arc of Steuben will hold a recruitment fair for prospective employees on Tuesday, March 20 at its administrative offices in Bath.

Various departments within the human service agency are seeking candidates for direct care and other positions. Department representatives will be available to talk about specific job openings, benefits and other pertinent issues. Little Shop of Horrors

Little Shop of Horrors will be held at 7 p.m. March 22, 7 p.m. March 23 and 2 p.m. March 24 at Prattsburgh Central School. The cost is $4 for adults and $3 for students and seniors.

Pesticide program

Cornell Cooperative Extension and the state Department of Environmental Conservation will host a pesticide applicator training program from 10 a.m. to noon March 20 at the DEC Office, 7291 Coon Road, Bath.

The Pesticide Applicator Exam will be given at 1 p.m. This training session is for those taking the exam for the first time, or those who have let their permit lapse and need to re-take the test. The exam fee is $50 - make checks payable to NYS-DEC. Study manuals are available from CCE - call ahead to make sure we have the one you need.

Participants should purchase study manuals early so they have time to prepare for the test. For more information and to register call Chris Wainwright, NYSDEC at 776-2165, ext. 23.

Lenten fish fry

The Coopers Plains Baptist Church will hold their last Lenten fish fry from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. March 23 at the church. The menue consists of fish, choice of macaroni and cheese or French fries, cole slaw, roll and butter and beverage. The price is $6.50 for regular dinner, $5.50 for half portion and pie for $1. Take outs will be available. Jack Lisi Youth Award

The Jack Lisi Youth Award Nominations deadline is fast approaching. Nominations are to be received or postmarked by March 21 at 5 p.m.

Spaghetti dinner bonanza

The Moose Lodge spaghetti dinner bonanza will be held from 5-7 p.m. March 31 at Loyal Order Moose Lodge, 6 Bridge St., Corning. Special guests will be the Sam Pallet Band with Mike Giannone and Nicky Cavallaro. Music, food, drinks, 50/50 raffles, drawings and prizes will be available.

All proceeds benefit the America Red Cross (Greater Steuben Chapter) Armed Forces Emergency Services program.

World War I Exhibit

World War I Exhibit is on display until April 8, at The Glenn H. Curtiss Museum of early aviation and local history. World War I uniforms, weapons, and other artifacts pertaining to America's participation in the "Great War" will be on display. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Curtiss Museum is located at 8419 State Route 54, Hammondsport. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors 65 and older, and $4 for students 7-18. Children six and under are free.

Annual Spring Seasons Spectacular

The Greater Steuben Chapter American Red Cross will host the Annual Spring Seasonings Spectacular fundraising event on March 30 at the Corning Museum of Glass. All proceeds go to support work of the local Red Cross. Food, live music by Mood- Swing, Silent and Live auctions with Guest Auctioneers Scott Free and Ally Payne WINK 106 Wake-up Crew.

Book and bake sale

The annual March book and bake sale, sponsored by The Friends of the Dormann Library, will be held in the Community Room of the Dormann Library, Saturday, March 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All books will be half the usual book sale price. Members of the Friends of the Library will have a 9 a.m. admission to preview the books and baked goods. All proceeds go to the support of the library: books, programs, and items needed by the library and staff. New members of the Friends are always welcome. Information is available at the library. Incoming Kindergarten parent meeting

A public concert will be held from 7-9 p.m. March 23 at the Dundee Central School. The Dady Brothers and The Dundee Irish Dancers will provide lively entertainment. A silent auction and bake sale will also be held. The cost is $10.

Southern Tier Library System Board of Trustees will meet at 2 p.m. March 20 at the Souther Tier Library System, 9424 Scott Road, Painted Post.

If no sufficient trustees attend to make a quorum, the Executive Committee will meet to conduct System business.

Prayer Vigil for World Peace

Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa will visit Bath on March 22 at the Days Inn Conference Room for a second informational meeting.

Sliwa will be available from 6 to 7 p.m. for a question and answer session. At 7 p.m., he will give an entertaining and informative presentation of the Guardian Angels concept. Invite your family, friends and neighbors to join this informational evening.

Taize service

The Bath Area Ministers Association will host a Taize prayer service at 7 p.m. March 25 in the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church of Bath. The community is welcome to attend.

Relay for Life kick off

Bath Relay for Life will hold its annual kick off meeting for the 2007 Relay at 6 p.m. March 24 in O'Malley Hall of St. Mary's Church.

The kick off is open to all cancer survivors, team captains for the 2007 Relay and anyone interested in learning more about the annual fundraiser, scheduled for July 13 and 14 at the Steuben County Fairgrounds.

Kick off activities will include music, giveaways, a cake wheel and black jack table. Team captains will be able to sign up their groups; event packets also will be available.

Annual Ham Party

The Annual Ham Party will be held at 7 p.m March 31 at the Savona Fire Department. Old fashion ham bar-b-q sandwiches, ham raffles and game tables will be available. Admission is $7.

There will also be a Texas Hold-Em tournament that starts at 5 p.m. Registration will be at 4 p.m.

Bath Neighborhood Watch

The Bath Neighborhood Watch Organization will present a program titled "Is Your Home Burgler Safe?" at 7 p.m. March 21 in the village court room during the group's monthly meeting. The public is welcome to attend, and refreshments will be provided.

A chicken bar-b-q will be held at 12 p.m. March 31 at the Savona Fire Department. The menu consists of chicken, beans, cole slaw and dinner role. Serving and selling full dinners only. The cost is $6.50. Take-outs available.
