Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary of Unit 173 meets every second Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Charles Wescott Post on William Streeet in Bath.

SPCA donations

The Finger Lakes SPCA is requesting area residents to continue donating returnable cans and bottles to the shelter on State Route 54. The recyclable materials are a significant source of income for the SPCA.

Volunteers also are needed to assist in the delivery of returnable materials to recycling centers and in walking dogs and cleaning facilities. For further information, call 776-3039.

GST Boces course catalog

The winter/spring course catalog for GST Boces Adult Education and Training programs is now available. The catalog contains descriptions of the more than 265 courses offered, including career training, online and leisure courses and trips.

Communication problems?

The Center for Dispute Settlement is offering a free service to Steuben County residents to help with communication skills. The service is for residents under the age of 21. Services are confidential and a neutral person is available to help individuals.

Spring story programs

The Dormann Library will begin its Spring story programs started March 19. New this year will be a program for children under three and their parent/ caregiver. This program is held on Mondays from 10:30-11:00 a.m. The dates will be March 19-June 11. Songs, rhymes, and simple stories will be presented.

The preschool story hour is for ages three-five. This program will be on Wednesdays from 10:30- 11:30 a.m. The dates will be March 21-June 13. Each week has a special theme with stories, songs, games, and a craft.

H-port American Legion meetings

The Hammondsport American Legion Auxiliary Unit 0407 will meet at 2 p.m. of the first Sunday every month at The Hammondsport American Legion, Rt. 54.

Village of Bath Housing Authority Board

The Village of Bath Housing Authority Board will meet at 4 p.m. the forth Monday of every month (except where a Holiday occures, then it will be held the week before.) The next meeting will be held on March 26.

Dormann Library Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees of the Dormann Library will hold their next monthly meeting at 5 p.m. April 9 in the Empire Room of the Library Building at 101 West Morris Street. Bath.

P-burgh Pre- Kindergarten program

Children in the Prattsburgh School District who will be four years old by Dec. 1, 2007 may be eligible for the Pre-Kindergarten program at Prattsburgh Central School.

Kindergarten info. meeting

Parents of all in-coming kindergarten students are encouraged to attend an informational meeting on March 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the Vernon E. Wightman Primary School cafeteria.

Kindergarten registration packets will be available that evening.

Children who will be fiveyears old on or before December 1, 2007 are eligible to start school in the 2007-08 school year.

If your child will be eligible to enter kindergarten in September, please call the school at 776-4123 ext. 5110 to ensure that your child's name and address are on the eligibility list.

Kindergarten registration will be held May 7-11.

Free trip for 11th grade student

Steuben Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. is looking for an 11th grade student to sponsor for the National Rural Electric Cooperative Legislative Conference in May 2007. The student will travel to Washington DC for free.

To be eligible the student must reside in a home served by Steuben REC, Inc.

Cancer kickball tournament

The 4th annual Billy Apenowich Memorial Kick Cancer Kickball Tournament will be held Sunday, June 3 at the Bath soccer complex. This is a fun filled all day event. Teams consist of 8-12 players, half adults and half under the age of 14.

Ten free trees

Ten Free white flowering dogwood trees will be given to each person who joins The National Arbor Day Foundation during March 2007.

The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting between March 1 and May 31 with enclosed planting instructions. The replaced free of charge.

Members also receive a subscription to Arbor Day, the Foundation's monthly publication, and The Tree Book with information about tree planting and care.

To become a member of the Foundation and receive the free trees, send a $10 contribution to Ten Free Dogwood Trees, National Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Avenue, Nebraska City, NE 68410, by March 31. Or join online at www.arborday.org.

"Just Desserts"

Corner Traveling Players will present "Just Desserts," an audience participation mystery at 7:30 p.m. March 31 and 2 p.m. April 1 at The Old National Hotel, 13 E. Steuben St., Bath. Desserts, tea, coffee and hot chocolate will be served at intermission and a cash bar will be available. Tickets are $25 for couples and $15 for singles. Tickets will be on sale at Longwell Lumber Co., or call 664-1207, 776-4313 or 776- 5114. This event is to benefit the 'Save-The-Lyon' commission.

Avoca Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration for the 2007-2008 school year will be held at the Avoca Central School on the following dates:

+ From Noon to 6 p.m. April 23.

+ From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 24.

To register, parents will need to show a birth certificate proving that their child will be at least five years old by Dec. 1, 2007 and a current immunization record. Immunizations are required for public school attendance before entering.

Phone calls will be accepted for appointments on April 3 and 4 between the hours of 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. only. Call Mrs. Weldy in the Elementary Office at 566-2221 x-122.

World War I Exhibit

World War I Exhibit is on display until April 8, at The Glenn H. Curtiss Museum of early aviation and local history. World War I uniforms, weapons, and other artifacts pertaining to America's participation in the "Great War" will be on display. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Curtiss Museum is located at 8419 State Route 54, Hammondsport. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors 65 and older, and $4 for students 7-18. Children six and under are free.

Annual Spring Seasons Spectacular

The Greater Steuben Chapter American Red Cross will host the Annual Spring Seasonings Spectacular fundraising event on March 30 at the Corning Museum of Glass. All proceeds go to support work of the local Red Cross. Food, live music by Mood- Swing, Silent and Live auctions with Guest Auctioneers Scott Free and Ally Payne WINK 106 Wake-up Crew.

Presentation of the "Spirit of Humanity Award" will take place at the event.

Bath Landlord Association meeting

Bath Police Chief David K. Rouse reports that the Bath Area Landlords Association will meet at 7 p.m. March 28 at the Clyde F. Simon Lakeview Apartments, 105 Geneva St., Bath. Landlords outside the Village of Bath are welcome. Refreshments will be provided. Attendees are asked to park in the visitor parking area located in the first two rows on the left as you pull into the complex.

Sgt. Dan West of the Horseheads Police Department will present information to landlords on illicit methamphetamine production and clandestine lab awareness training. Bath Area Landlord Association group leader David C. Lewis will discuss the legal formation of the Association.

Spaghetti dinner bonanza

The Moose Lodge spaghetti dinner bonanza will be held from 5-7 p.m. March 31 at Loyal Order Moose Lodge, 6 Bridge St., Corning. Special guests will be the Sam Pallet Band with Mike Giannone and Nicky Cavallaro.

Music, food, drinks, 50/50 raffles, drawings and prizes will be available.

All proceeds benefit the America Red Cross (Greater Steuben Chapter) Armed Forces Emergency Services program.

Christmas Tree meeting

Cornell Cooperative Extension will host the Steuben Area Christmas Tree Growers Annual Meeting on March 28 at the Bath Country Club, 330 May Street in Bath with registration starting at 10:45 a.m. Dr. Ricky Bates, Department of Horticulture at PennState will discuss "Post- Harvest Quality Issues" and "New Species on the Horizon - Nordmann Fir and Other Promising Species from the Mediterranean Region." This program is approved for 1.0 NYS-DEC recertification credit in categories 1a, 3a and 25. A buffet-style meal will be available for $20 per person. Victims of Domestic Violence Women's Support Group

Chicken bar-b-q

A chicken bar-b-q will be held at 12 p.m. March 31 at the Savona Fire Department, McCoy St., Savona. The menu consists of chicken, beans, cole slaw and dinner role. Serving and selling full dinners only. The cost is $6.50. Take-outs available.

Rabies clinic

A free rabies clinic sponsored by the Steuben County Public Health & Nursing Services will be held from 9-11 a.m. March 31 at the Hornell Fire Department, the Corning Fire Department, and the Mt. Washington County Barn in Bath. All pets must be restrained. Remember state law mandates that all cats, dogs and ferrets receive rabies vaccinations by four months of age. Annual Ham Party

The Savona Fire Department Annual Ham Party will be held at 7 p.m March 31 at the Savona Fire Department, McCoy St., Savona. Old fashion ham barb q sandwiches. Ham raffles and game tables will be available. Admission is $7.

There will also be a Texas Hold-Em tournament that starts at 5 p.m. Registration will be at 4 p.m.

Taize service

The Bath Area Ministers Association will host a Taize prayer service at 7 p.m. March 25 in the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church of Bath. The community is welcome to attend.

Easter Egg Hunt

+ The Hammondsport Easter Egg Hunt will be held at 11 a.m. March 31 at the Village Square Park. The event is for children 2-12 years of age. Prizes will be for the most eggs and gold and silver egg. Kids are invited to stop in at the Visitor Center. Kids will also get a chance to guess the number of jelly beans.

+ The John Southard Youth Recreation Commission (JSYRC) will hold their 5th Annual Easter Egg Hunt at 12 p.m. April 1 at Pulteney Park.

Children from birth to 12 years of age are able to participate, but must be accompanied by an adult.

"A Fine Monster You Are" production

Hammondsport Central School Drama Club will hold their Spring production of "A Fine Monster You Are" at 7 p.m. March 30 and March 31 at the school.

Women's History Month

On Friday, March 30, in observance of Women's History Month, the Friends of the Dormann Library will sponsor a program by Melinda Grube, anadjunct professor at Cayuga Community College and a doctoral candidate in the history

program at Union Institute and University. Grube will outline the events leading up to the Women's Rights Convention held in Seneca Falls in 1848.

She also will dress in character, portraying a woman of that era. The program will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room at the Dormann Library.

This will be Grube's third visit to Bath. The public is invited, as her program will appeal to all ages. Refreshments will be served.

Bath Board of Education

The regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Bath Central School District will be held at 5:30 p.m. March 28 in the District Office.

Village Board Trustees Special Meeting

The Village Board of Trustees has scheduled a Special Meeting on March 29 directly following the Public Hearing to adopt the 2007-2008 budget at 6 p.m.
