Fast-track road to failure

The Bush administration, knowing the president's fast-track trade authority runs out on July 1st, is accelerating as many Free Trade agreements as possible.

The FTA with South Korea is the largest since NAFTA. Although it was opposed by American auto manufacturers and Korean farmers, it was signed beyond the cut-off date by both countries after serious arm twisting. The results are predictable.

Expect to see thousands of Korean farmers put out of business by American agribusiness. On our side, thousands of American auto workers will be laid off. This happened with NAFTA. There are a lot of Mexican farmers streaming across our border.

South Korea exports about 800,000 vehicles to the U.S. each year but only imports about 4,000 American cars. They have erected numerous onerous inspection barriers to American auto imports, and these barriers will continue. One of American's greatest industries is being gutted by these irrational and unfair track agreements.

Congress must repeal fast-track and never again transfer its constitutional authority for trade agreements to the Executive Branch. For that matter, it must never again cede any of its authority to the president, including its sole right to declare war and to control the purse strings. America is being dismantled, bit by bit, due mainly to constitutional violations.

Happenstance does not explain the race to the bottom. It's all a part of the New World Order plan to weaken America so it can be herded into a Fascist one-world government, with nary a whimper.
