Two competing for Haverling board seat
Ron Deming, who served one term on the municipal board, now has his sights on the school board seat held formerly by Allen Swan, a 15-year veteran of the board. Running for the same fiveyear seat is Todd A. Martin, a graduate of the Haverling school district and, like Deming, a resident of the Village of Bath. Both men describe themselves as fiscal conservatives, with Deming touting his budget experience s town supervisor and Martin urging voters to consider his experience as an architectural project engineer. The school district, Martin noted in prepared remarks, is reviewing a possible capital project in which his professional experience would be valuable. Both men have children who currently are students in the school district. The current issue of "Haverling News" contains their prepared remarks and condensed resumes. They also are active in the community. Martin volunteers as a youth soccer coach and scoutmaster for the local Boy Scout Troop 59. Deming, a c rime victim advocate, is a founding member of the Bath Neighborhood Watch program and has coached youth sports including wrestling, baseball nd football.
School board elections will be held across New York on May 15, along with votes on district elections. The Haverling school district has proposed the adoption of a $29.1 million budget that calls for a 3.5 percent increase in the tax rate of $16.99 per $1,000 of market value.
The May 15 ballot will also contain a proposition authorizing the Dormann Library to increase its annual funding by $20,000 (See story on page 1.)
