Too many questions on Urbana park plan

To the Editor,

Why is it that no matter what the Town of Urbana taxpayers ask for seems to fall on deaf ears? At a town board meeting March 20, it was asked that a meeting be set up for the people to ask questions and get answers about the park purchase. We were told that it would be brought up at a closed-to-the-public meeting the 26 of March. First off, what would have been such a big deal to just vote on it right then and there and say yes or no? It was voted on to have the private meeting, so it seems to me they could have set a day aside to have a meeting set up for the taxpayers. Wouldn't that be beneficial so that no "misinformation" would be present before the election? Next, why did it take until April 10 to say there won't be a meeting set up on the lake front project? The board had 62 days to set up the date for the vote to take place so why couldn't they have set up a date for us? We didn't ask for a catered banquet, only an informational meeting. What's it take to set up a few chairs? As for this write-in-your-questions, why did it take so long to let people know they would be accepting questions by mail? I myself like to ask the questions in person, not through a paper. Could it be they don't want any questions asked? Also, it was stated that all registered Town of Urbana residents could vote on this project but yet in the March 20 meeting they voted to have no absentee votes on the project? Why? Does this mean that because a person vacations in Florida or elsewhere, they lose their right to vote? After all, they too will pay for this ridiculous project if it goes through. We have lost and at this moment are losing more lives for the people's freedom and rights to vote and here we are, our town board picking and choosing who can and can't vote.

Last off, I'd like to say these people are elected officers which means servant of the people for the people, not rulers of the people, and it's time they act like what they were elected to be. If you have questions, but no answers, the only alternative is a big no vote on the lake front, as you don't want to sign a 30-year contract with blank spaces. Now they claim that the taxpayers have to pay back $500,000 that the town spent, "on what?" Add that to the $500,000 on the lake front project if it goes through, and don't forget the interest added to that total, and what have you got? What's in your wallet? Jeanne George Hammondsport
