Too much plastic To the Editior, They are telling us now that a substance used to manufature plastic may be the cause of poision in pet food. What does that say about the safety of our food? We cook in the microwave with plastic, eat from plastic dishes, store and freeze in plastic. Much of the food we buy in plastic, especially soda, which may have been started in plastic for some time. Could plastic be partly responsible for the high incidence of cancer we are seeing today? Almost every family has one or more members with cancer. Many have no prior history of cancer in the family. The same is true if the much greater rate of autism. Could plastic be responsible in part for autism? Hundreds of products we use are made from plastic. Our land fills are full of plastic and it is hard to find a place for a new landfill. Plastic is not biodegradable. It lasts for ages. What is it doing to our soil? Maybe it is time we give this some serious thought. Only about 14% of plastic is recycled. Alice MacBride Bath |
