HAMMONDSPORT HAPPENINGS + Hammondsport's Woman's Club had their final get-together May 10 called their "Spring Fling," it was held in the Hammondsport Park Inn with a 6:30 social time and a 7 p.m. dinner. Arrangements were made by Lisa Zema, assisted by Linda Ellias-Cart, and Martha Treichler. Meetings will now be in recess during the summer time. + T'is the last day to go to the Keuka Lake Players third and last performance of Haufman and Hart's comedy "The Man Who Came to Dinner," being held at Hammondsport Central School's main auditorium. Don't miss todays afternoon final offering. People in the area interested in drama may wish to join the Keuka Lake Players in their 2007 workshop series and learn something new. When you've been putting on shows for over 20 years, as has the KLP, you are bound to learn a thing or two. This year the KLP has organized a series of theater craft workshops in which members can share experiences, learn something new, and perhaps even discover something new, and maybe even discover their long-hidden personal talents? The series is designed to encourage those from budding actor to the eager set designer. Whether you're a seasoned stage veteran or new to the stage, there is hope for all in KLP workshop series this year. The Education Committee is working hard organizing opportunities for their members to learn from experienced actors, directors, musicians and artists. The inhouse workshops are open to all members free of charge and open to others for a fee. Reservations are required. Please call 776-9523 or email www.keukalakeplayers.org for more information. + Tomorrow, Monday, May 14, Photo Story 3 begins for all adults who signed up for the Adult Education course entitled "Photo Story 3" at Hammondsport Central School Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m., Shelayne Sprague/Wise, Instructor. The class teaches persons how to bring pictures to music and create a side show of your most memorable moments. For those who have a family reunion coming up, or a class reunion or a party in the near future, with a computer, some photos and Photo Story 3 - everybody will be talking abut "Remember when we..?" Photo Story 3 is very simple and the adults taking it will have friends thinking "What a genius he/she is!" Software is free to the takers of this course to load on their home computers. + The Hammondsport Public Library has an Adult Book Discussion Group at the library May 14 on Barbara Kingsolver's "Prodigal Summer" beginning at 7 p.m. + May 15, the Spring Fling Art Show and All-District Concert is being held at 7 p.m. at Hammondsport Central School; also the budget vote. May 16 K-12 Progress Reports will be sent home. + Bruce K. White, Hammondsport recently joined the Arc of Steuben Board of Directors. He has an Associate's Degree in Drafting from SUNY-Delhi, and works at Lucy Knapp Division of Realty USA; for 17 years owned the Vinehurst Motel in Pleasant Valley, and also once worked as head chef for Lakeside Restaurant. Bruce and his wife, Mary, Hammondsport Central School Psychologist, live in Hammondsport with their son, Steven who is attending RIT majoring in Criminal Justice. In addition to serving on the Arc of Steuben Board of Directors, Bruce is running for the Hammondsport Village Board, on which he has served two years previously. He is a member of the Episcopal Church, and his hobby is buying, fixing up, and selling houses. + Youth in Government Intern Program for selected juniors/seniors area school districts have had nineteen young people this second semester of the 2006-07 school year. Representing some of the finest youth of today, their Simulated Legislative Session will be held Thursday, May 17 at 1 p.m. in the Legislative Chamber of the County Office Building, 3 E. Pulteney Square of Bath. This Simulated Session is the final activity for the student. Each student will offer a resolution he/she feels might be of significant interest to county government, an opportunity for each student to pull together all phases learned about county government. The current interns include young men and women from Addison, Avoca, Campbell-Savona, Corning West, Hammondsport, Haverling, and Jasper- Troupsburg. Next week the Proposed Resolutions and students names will be printed here - plus the results of which Proposed Resolutions were passed. + The Steuben County Historical Society, Dugald Cameron Chapter, Archives/Library meeting will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 18 in their Bath headquarters. + Bostwick Club of the area will meet Saturday, May 19 in the social rooms of the Masonic Temple, located on Main Street at 6:30 p.m. for dinner and program. Robert and Barbara Jones, with their assistants are in charge of the meal with their assistants George and Barb Brayer, William and Marion Kingham, Fran and Pat Schoeffler, Cal and Laurie Stoutz, Ed and Ann Vought. Entertainment following a business meeting led by Bob and Pat Shaurt, will be under the direction of Jerry and Jackie Holcombe. Church news: + St. Gabriel's Catholic Church: Congratulations goes to Dan Williams, St. Gabriel's Pastoral Minister, upon his graduation from Saint Bernard's School of Theology and Ministry on May 4. Dan has been awarded a masters of Divinity upon the completion of five years of study at St. Bernard's and will be ordained to the Permanent Deaconate of the Rochester Diocese on June 2. The church is very proud of these remarkable accomplishments and appreciate all that he has done for the church here while he has been pursuing these goals. Congratulations also go to two little girls who made their First Communion and May 6, 11 a.m. Mass, Ashlyn Amsden and Samantha Lyle. We rejoice with them and their families on that blessed day. Following the mass, a special coffee hour and light refreshments were served by the parents of last years First Communicants. + St. James Episcopal: It was Clean Up Day at St. James yesterday and the Church appreciates all who came to help. 9 a.m. Holy Eucharist and Sunday School this morning, Mothers Day. Don't forget items are always needed for the Food Pantry at St. James Church up the street. The Methodist Church has a new "basket" for the items you put in for the Pantry. Also the pantry can always use funds to help buy needed materials. Toiletries, personal and paper products need to be donated.
