Seven Lakes Council honors area women

Trish Sharkey of Bath received the highest adult award, the Girl Scout Thanks Badge, from the Girl Scouts - Seven Lakes Council, Inc. at its annual meeting recently in Corning. The Thanks Badge is given to adults whose performance in Girl Scouting is considered outstanding and benefits for the total council or entire Girl Scout movement.

Angel Turner of Hammondsport received the Girl Scouts' Appreciation Pin, given to adults with outstanding service to one or more geographic areas.

Sharkey has been a volunteer for 25 years, as a leader, consultant, treasurer, special events coordinator, encampment director, manager, and trainer of other adults. As a trainer, she has traveled around the Southern Tier for about 18 years. She has written or co-authored many versions of the leader trainings, and is the first to field test the trainings. She has also, at her own expense, traveled to national Girl Scout training conferences to network and keep her skills up to date.

Turner has been a Girl Scout leader for 12 years of one of the largest troops in her community. She has taken on many other adult responsibilities in the local running of the program.
