Gerald A. Button BATH - Gerald A. Button, 84 years old, of County Route 13 entered into rest at the home of his daughter and sonin law, Linda and Larry Stewart also of County Route 13, in the town of Urbana, on Monday evening, May 14, 2007 following an extended illness. Gerald was born on July 10, 1922 in Canisteo, a son of Ames A. and Jennie Mullikin Button. On Oct. 20, 1944 in the town of Howard, he married Norma Jean Stewart who died on Feb. 27, 2003. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Carrie Spaulding and Alta Brabant and a brother, Charles Button. Having been brought up on a farm, Gerald always felt close to the land and farm animals. He was a herdsman for the Ketch Krest Dairy and the Blue Gill Dairy farms both of Bath for many years and in his latter years enjoyed gardening at home. In his later years Gerald worked as a custodian at the Avoca Central School. A member of the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church for over 60 years, Gerald enjoyed music and was the church pianist for 44 years and often sang solos at church. Gerald and Norma enjoyed their church family and more than that they enjoyed their own family having been blessed with three daughters and two sons who survive. The daughters are Linda (Larry) Stewart of Bath, Loreen (Lynn) Karr of Howard and Carleen (Larry) Guild of Cameron Mills. The sons are Arland (Carol) Button of Cohocton and Merlin (Debbie) Button of Campbell as well as his two brothers, Robert (Evelyn) Button of Jasper and Dale Button of Kings Ferry; 23 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church at a date and time to be announced in the future. Burial will be in the Towlesville Cemetery in the town of Howard. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials, to honor Gerald A. Button, be given to the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church, County Route 69, Canisteo, NY 14823. Arrangements are with the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo. |
