Clarence H. Clemens HAMMONDSPORT - Clarence H. Clemens, 88, passed away on May 15. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dortha Slingerland Clemens. He is also survived by his children: Charles (Jan), William (Candace), and Deborah Clemens. Surviving grandchildren are Carrie Clemens and Elizabeth (Earl) Sharp, Kristen (Kyle) Keenan and Michelle Clemens. The great-grandchildren are Gavin Clemens, Carly and Parker Keenan and Margaret Sharp. Also surviving is sister-in-law Louise Slingerland. Clarence is predeceased by grandson Shawn Michael Clemens, sisters, and spouses: Betty and Robert Grey, Bessie and Richard Dusinberre, Alyce Marie and Robert Scott, and brother-in-law, Robert Slingerland. Clarence was a graduate of Hobart College and the University of Buffalo. He was a teacher and administrator in many school districts in Western New York. Upon retiring, as Superintendent of West Valley Central School in 1974, he and Dottie moved to Keuka Lake. Over the years he was involved with the American Legion, Elks Club, AM VETS, Mason and Bostwick Dinner Club. A Memorial Service was held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Bath on Saturday, May 19 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Staff Sergeant Shawn Clemens Scholarship Fund, c/o Allegany Limestone Central School, Five Mile Road, Allegany, NY 14706 or St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Liberty Street, Bath, NY 14810.
