Community does not need a Wal-Mart

To the Editor,

People like me are upset by this because if they build a Wal-Mart here, the crime rate will go up, heavy traffic, run other businesses out of business, etc. We don't need a Wal- Mart in Bath. Twenty minutes away is a Wal-Mart in Painted Post; 30-40 minutes away is one in Hornell, one in Big Flats and another in Dansville, which are all near Bath. Why do we need another Wal-Mart? I like Wal-Mart, but my Lord! They are also building another Super Center Wal-Mart where the old A & P plant used to be. Wal-Mart isn't even Union. I pray to God they will not build it. We do not need it.

I like my small town the way it is - we have Kmart, P&C Foods, Tops Market, three different kinds of Dollar Stores, plus they're already building another one next to Kmart; Eckerd, Fashion Bug, Rent-Way, Cellular store, Salvation Army, Olympia sporting good store, Dunkin Donuts, Pizza Hut, Arby's, two different Chinese food places, Burger Kings, McDonald's, Ponderosa, Subway, two ice cream stores; Emmies II and Dean's and a few gas stations.

There is an Arnot Mall in Horseheads and a Consumer Square in Big Flats too. We don't need anymore clothing stores or food chains in our town, of course, I wouldn't mind have a Kentucky Fried Chicken Restaurant since the one in Corning is no longer is business.

We do not need a Wal-Mart. Elizabeth Porter Bath
