H'port advances to Class DD quarters
THE LEADER STAFF

HAMMONDSPORT - After a couple innings worth of timing adjustments, No. 7 Hammondsport found a groove late enroute to a 14-2 win over No. 10 C.G. Finney in the first round of the Section V, Class DDsoftball tournament.

Leading 3-0 through three and a half innings, Hammondsport began to key in on pitching of Finney's Emily Hoag and scored four runs in the four to establish a 7-0 lead.

The Lakers tacked on another seven runs in the sixth inning for insurance.

Alex Putney led the charge offensively for Hammondsport, going a perfect six-for-six with a triple on her way to a gamehigh five RBI. She also stole four bases.

But Putney was not alone in her offensive eruption, as Hammondsport pounded out 22 hits in the game and saw eight different batters record multi-hit games.

Audrey Shippee scattered five hits while punching out eight batters to pick up the win.

Hammondsport traveled to No. 2 Fillmore on Friday, May 25, for a quarter final contest.
