FLP open auditions

The Keuka Lake Players will hold open auditions for their performance, Fiddler on the Roof. Auditions will be held from 6-9 p.m. June 4 and 6 at the Hammondsport High School Auditorium, Main St, Hammondsport. Come prepared to audition with a song from the show.

The Weston Presbyterian Church, mission fund raiser will hold an auction and flea market June 9 at the Tyrone Fire Department, County Route 226, Tyrone. Auction viewing will be held at 9 a.m. and will start at 11 a.m. The flea market will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Annual Haverling Alumni Banquet will be held on June 22 at the VFW, Rte. 54, Bath. Social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., $17 per person. Speaker of the evening will be Luther Hoffman, former Haverling band director.

The commencement ceremony for the Haverling High School Class of 2007 will be held at 11 a.m. June 23 in the High School gymnasium.

Graduates will receive eight to ten tickets for admission to the ceremony. Guests without a ticket may watch the ceremony via a live feed in the auditorium. P-burgh School Alumni Banquet

The annual Prattsburgh School Alumni Banquet will be held on June 23, at the school cafetorium at a cost of $16. Doors open at 5 p.m. for school tours. The Board of Education of the Bath Central School District will hold a Regular Meeting at 7 p.m. June 6 in the District Office. Following the Regular Meeting the board of education will hold a building workshop. Women Business Owners' Roundtable

Golf Classic

The 9th Annual Davenport and Taylor Golf Classic will be held on June 14 at the Bath Country Club. Many events will take place. Proceeds benefit the construction of a new Rehabilitation Services Building. Registration deadline is June 8.

Distribution

The Salvation Army of Corning, in co-operation with the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, will hold a Community Food Distribution from 6:30-8 p.m. June 14 at The Salvation Army, 32 Denison Parkway East, Corning. Please bring bags or boxes to hold your items. Car seat check and distribution

The Third Annual Peace Banquet will be held at 7 p.m. June 6 at the PeaceWeaver Retreat Sanctuary, Crouse Rd., Bath. Last sign-ups for the Kiwanis Summer Soccer will be held from 6-8 p.m. June 4 at the concession stand, varsity soccer field off Charles St. The cost is $10. Antique show postponed

St. Thomas Episcopal Church antique show, originally scheduled for June 9, has been postponed the Rev. Brad Benson announced last week.

Plans for a new date have not yet been finalized Benson said.

Avoca/Wheeler Lions

The Avoca/Wheeler Lions will beet at 6 p.m. June 5 at the Country Cafe in Avoca. Guest speaker will be Mads Skipanes from Stavanger, Norway, who has been an exchange student at the Avoca Central School for the past year. Mitchellsville Cemetery Association

Recital and ice cream social

The Bath Band Boosters will hold a Bath "Teachers with Talent" Recital and Ice Cream Social at 7 p.m. June 14 at the Haverling High School auditorium. Come and listen to Bath Music Teachers perform.

Tickets in advance can be purchased at the high school office and Deb's Books and Things on Liberty St. The cost of tickets purchased in advance is $5 for adults, students and senior citizens for $3 and children ages 5 and under are free. Tickets at the door will be $7 for adults, $5 for student and senior citizens and children under 5 for free. All proceeds will support the Bath Instrumental students. Improving driver safety

The staff of the Caregiver Resource Center of the Steuben County Office for the Aging can help sort out issues and make suggestions for improving elderly driving safety.

The American Legion Auxiliary of Unit 173 meets every second Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Charles Wescott Post on William St., Bath.

SPCA donations

The Finger Lakes SPCA is requesting area residents to continue donating returnable cans and bottles to the shelter on St. Rte. 54. The recyclable materials are a significant source of income for the SPCA.

Volunteers also are needed to assist in the delivery of returnable materials to recycling centers and in walking dogs and cleaning facilities.

The Center for Dispute Settlement is offering a free service to Steuben County residents to help with communication skills. The service is for residents under the age of 21. Services are confidential and a neutral person is available to help individuals.

The Dormann Library will hold a program for children under three and their parent/caregiver.

The program is held on Mondays from 10:30-11 a.m. until June 11. Songs, rhymes, and simple stories will be presented.

The preschool story hour is for ages three to five. The program will be held on Wednesdays from 10:30- 11:30 a.m. until June 13. Each week has a special theme with stories, songs, games, and a craft.

Senior trips

A Bath Village/Town senior trip will be held on August 8 to a luncheon cruise on Skaneatelas Lake and Thoroughly Modern Mille at the Merry Go Round Theater, Auburn. Sign ups will be held Monday, June 25 at 1 p.m. in the Board Room of the Village of Bath Municipal Building, 110 Liberty St., Bath. Wine Country Toastmasters

Wine Country Toastmasters will beet the first and third Tuesdays from 7-8:30 p.m. at the County Health Care Facility, Co. Rte. 113, Bath. The meeting will discuss enhancing communication and leadership skills.

"To Have and to Hold," an exhibit of classic wedding gowns of yesteryear, presented by Lorraine Loomis- Konig, will be on display until June 17 at The Glenn H. Curtiss Museum, 8419 St. Rt. 54, Hammondsport. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors 65 and older and $4 for students 7-18. Children under six are free. Group rates are 10 or more are available.

To demonstrate the pride of the Bath VA, the Bath VA Dietetic Staff will conduct walking tours of the grounds every Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. until Sept. 29, 2007.

The Cochocton Assembly of God will hold a vacation bible school, Avalanche Ranch, a wild ride through God's word, from 6-8 p.m. June 25 and 29 at 31 N. Dansville St. (Rt. 415,) Cohocton. The event is for children from four years of age through 6th grade. Bible stories and verses, songs, dance, games and snacks will be available. 4th Annual Golf Tournament

The St. James Mercy Foundation will hold their 4th Annual Gold Tournament with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. June 8 at Twin Hickory Golf Club. The event will be held rain or shine. Many great prizes and drawings, including a chance to win a free car courtesy of Maple City Dodge.

A limited number tournament sponsorships and teams are still available. Food and beverages will be provided on the course and a dinner will follow the event in the club house. Payment is due at the time of registration, June 1, 2007.

The event is sponsored by the St. James Mercy Southern Tier Health Associates. All proceeds from the event will benefit the health care needs of the local community.

The Steuben County Environmental Management Council and Steuben Sierra Club Committee are sponsoring a Steuben Water Day Festival. The event will take place on Sunday, June 3 from 12-4 p.m. at Champlin Beach on the south end of Keuka Lake. It will be an opportunity for fun and learning about a variety of water topics: the water cycle, stream processes, stormwater management, the importance of water to health, pollution, sewage treatment, flooding, recreation, fishing, water safety, and lake history.

There will be hands-on activities for all ages. Local science teachers will provide instruction in basic water testing and identification of the plants and animals in Keuka Lake.

Exhibits will include "Living Stream" from the Bath Fish Hatchery, Cayuga Nation Environmental Task Force, Steuben County Soil and Water Conservation District, Steuben County Sheriff's dive trailer, Peaceweavers, Chemung Basin River Trail Partnership, Keuka Lake Association, Steuben County Historical Society, Hammondsport Library, and the DEC "Enviroscape" exhibit. Author Lee Welles will sell and autograph her new Gaia Girls book, "Way of Water."

There will be musical performances by the Irish band Kilrush, native flute player Dan Hill of the Cayuga Nation, and the Wayland Cohocton High School Jazz Band.

The Keuka Maid Dinner Boat will be open for visitors, and will offer food for sale. Kirk House will give historical presentations about Glenn Curtiss and steamboats onboard the Keuka Maid.

Bath summer school

The Bath Central School District will hold registration for summer school from 6-8 p.m. June 6 and 7 in the lobby outside the High School gym. Students who will enter grades 1-6 in the fall are eligible.

Summer school sessions begin July 9 and run until Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Students may sign up for one, two or three blocks of study in English/Language arts, math or optional enrichment courses including Discovery Science, Sports and Fitness and Art in the Community.

Students also may register for summer swimming lessons during summer school registration.

All classes are held at VEW Primary School. Parents must provide transportation. Cancer kickball tournament

The 4th Annual Billy Apenowich Memorial Kick Cancer Kickball Tournament will be held Sunday, June 3 at the Bath soccer complex. This is a fun filled all day event. Teams consist of 8-12 players, half adults and half under the age of 14.

La Festa Italiana

The La Festa Italiana will be held June 13 at IAV Clubhouse on Magee St. Hors d'oeuvres at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. Menu features authentic Italian food and dessert. Music will be by Bernie Rosplock. Raffles, door prizes will be available. The cost is $15 per person.
