Harold W. Smith

PRATTSBURGH - Harold W. Smitty, Laddy, Smith went to sleep and woke up with Jesus his Lord on Saturday, May 26. He was the worlds best and most loving husband, Dad, Grandfather, and Friend. He was born July 16, 1917 in Syracuse to Adolph and Angelan Marek Kucharski. He was named Wladyslaw Kucharski. He was adopted on Nov.r 24, 1924 by Winfield and Ruby J. Smith and renamed Harold Winfield Smith. He attended Franklin Academy. He married Gertrude Ackley on August 5, 1939. He worked for Widmer's Wine Cellars in Naples until 1942, when he entered the US Army Air Corp. He served his country for 4 years during WWII. He was employed by Mercury Aircraft and McConnell MFG. And also worked his farm on East Hill. He was a member of the Prattsburgh United Methodist Church, the Prattsurgh historical Society, and the Frances J. Flaherty American Legion.

Harold is survued by his loving daughter, Cathy (Leslie) Babcock; two grandsons, William and Mitchell Babcock; sister-in-law, Mildred (Russell) Howe; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Gertrude in 1993; his parents, Adolph and Angelan Kucharski; and Winfield and Ruby Smith; and his sister, Johann Woodruff.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Prattsburgh Ambulance, 15 Allis St, Prattsburgh, NY 14873 or to the Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 East Corning Rd., Corning, NY 14830.

Friends and Family are invited to attend graveside services for Harold on Sunday, June 3 at 3 p.m. at the Prattsburgh Rural Cemetery in Prattsburgh, with Don Peek officiating. Arrangements are with the Bottoni-Wood Funeral Home, 4 Mechanic St., Prattsburgh.
