Hammondsport senior high school Academic Awards The Academic Awards Assembly was held Friday, June 1, 2007 at Hammondsport Central High School. Presentation of awards was as follows: The Hammondsport Alumni Association presented several awards to graduating seniors: The Valedictorian Award of $750 was presented to Megan Walling; the Salutatorian Award of $750 was presented to Carlie Brown; the Math Award of $750 to Brandon Lawson; the Richard F. Krug Science Award of $750 to Katherine Bagley; the Marion S. French English Award of $750 to Mary Allen ; the Moretti, Bidwell, & Magee Art Award of $750 was presented to Amber Orsino; the Jan Ketchum Special Achievement Award of $1,000 was presented to Jeremiah Jacquier. Kane McAfee received a $100.00 Savings Bond as the recipient of the Vine City Supply Technology Award. The Shirley's of Bath Technology Award was presented to William Duncan. He received a $50.00 Savings Bond. The Hammondsport Teachers Association presented awards to 9th and 11th graders for academic achievement. This year's 9th grade recipients of a $50 Savings Bond were Mattie Catherman, Trevor Parke, and Diana Derr. The 11th grade recipients of a $50 Savings Bond were Sylvia Sable, Autumn Makarick, and Ashlee Travis. The following seniors received $200: Mary Allen, Carlie Brown, Kane McAfee, Courtney Morrison, Amber Orsino, and Nicole Wright. Past graduates Josiah Armstrong, Brian Howard, Luke Mishrell, Tyler Parke, Steven White, and Nicholas Wilkinson also received $200. Five Star Bank Awards for academic achievement were presented to Nicole Wright and Daniel Barton -$100 each. The Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award is given to a student who has attained high scholastic standing in the sciences. This year's recipient is Sylvia Sable. The award is a Bronze medallion, free application and $30,000 scholarship eligibility to the University of Rochester. The Hammondsport Chamber of Commerce presented a scholarship award of $100 to a graduating senior who has demonstrated volunteerism in school and community. The award went to Courtney Morrison. The Elias Carl Spanish Award of $100 was given to Katherine Bagley. The Sam Pennise D.D.S. and Cinnamon Stick Outstanding Business Student award of $300 was presented to Courtney Morrison, she also received the outstanding business student plaque. The JS Hubbs Business Award was given to Morgan Rago for $100. The Hammondsport Rotary Club Youth Citizenship Award of $50 was presented to Emily Farmer. The Hammondsport Women's Club Spanish Award was given to Megan Walling for $100. The Hammondsport Public Library Award was presented to Glenn Mishrell for $100. The Semper Fidelis award was received by Jeremiah Jacquier. The U.S. Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence Award was given to Brandon Lawson. The HESPA Technology Award was given to Jason Arnold - $100. The Pulteney Ladies Auxiliary Award for special achievement and citizenship went to Paige French in the amount of $50.00. The Raymond E. Donley Personality Award was given to Courtney Morrison; her name will be engraved on the Raymond Donley plaque in the school. Driver Education Awards of $75.00 each from Shaw Insurance Agency were given to Daniel Barton, Sylvia Sable, and Jenna Presley. The Hammondsport Firemans Auxiliary Award was presented to Abigail Calafiore-$50; Ryan King- $25; Megan Walling-$25. The AAA Award for driving excellence was presented to Daniel Barton. The ServU Federal Credit Union Award of $100 was given to Raymond Ullrich, and the ServU Smart Saver Award of $250 was given to Mary Allen. The Thursday Nighters Award of $150.00 was presented Rebecca Clark. The Wayne Fire Department Memorial Citizenship Award was given to Mary Allen for $250. The William H. Cohn History Award was presented to Carlie Brown in the amount of $100. The Principal's Award for Academic Excellence recognized the following students with $25: Mary Allen, Carlie Brown, and Daniel Barton. This is for achieving high honor roll every quarter of 9th through 12th grade. The Clarkson University Achievement Award, offering a $36,000 scholarship, was awarded to Hannah Catherman. The Clarkson University Leadership Award, offering a $44,000 scholarship, was given to Alexandra Putney. The Wells College 21st Century Leadership Award, offering $20,000 for study at Wells, was presented to Sylvia Sable. The University of Rochester Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony Humanities & Social Sciences Award, offering $30,000 upon admission to U of R, was awarded to Hannah Catherman. The J.S. Hubbs Business Award of $100 was presented to Tyler Parke. The RIT Computing Medal & Scholarship Program honored Anthony Smolos and Kalyn Fries with a medal and $12,000 Scholarship eligibility to RIT. Perfect Attendance Awards were given to the following students for $20 each: Kristen Cornish, Diana Derr, Alysia Hilligus, Ryan House, Bethany Leggett, Justyn Schuck, Paul Venema, Heather Zyla, Arlen Cornell, Keshia Day, Jennifer Gordon, Stephanie Malone, Brian Stachnik, Christine Tipton, Damian Buck, Joseph Bussmann, Nicholas Foster, Kalyn Fries, Nathaniel Gurnsey, Katherine Lenker, Jason Arnold, Courtney Conley, Kane McAfee. The Parent Teacher Organization presented a $100 Volunteer Award to Kalyn Fries. The Office of the State Comptroller Academic Excellence Award certificate was given to Mary Allen. The Ceramic Association of New York (CANY), in conjunction with Alfred University, honors students who display exceptional performance in science, mathematics and English. This year's recipient is Amanda Miller. The University of Rochester Xerox Award for Innovation and Technology, with $30,000 scholarship eligibility, was given to William Bailey. The Hammondsport Association of Teaching Assistants Award of $100 was given to Nichole Jacquier. The Elmira College Key Award was presented to Jennifer Lane and Kayla Walruth - $28,000 scholarship eligibility. The Student Recognition Incentive Awards, recognizing positive citizenship, were given to the following students; $100 each to Gary Koseba, Shelton Adams, and Jacob Clarkson. Samantha Darrin and Rebecca Clark each received $500 applied directly to their intended college choice. The Keuka Lake Player Award of $250 for outstanding acting achievement was given to Courtney Conley and Megan Walling. The Helen Rubar Memorial Peace Scholarship, recognizing volunteer effort in all areas, was given to Mary Allen for $350. The Kodak Young Leader Award, offering $24,000 scholarship eligibility was given to Jennifer Lane. The Triple "C" Award, recognizing character, courage, and commitment, was given to Brandon Lawson and Courtney Morrison. The VFW Webster Hill Conklin Post 1470 Ladies Auxiliary Award was given to Austin Morlan for $50. The Steuben County School Boards Academic All Stars Award was given to Megan Walling for $100. The United Food and Commercial Workers District Union Local 1 presented $1,000 scholarships to Kimberly Griffiin, Kane McAfee, Nicole Bergstresser, and Jason Arnold. The first Roberta Bailey Wambold Memorial Scholarship, honoring commitment to education, was presented to Kristal Kennedy for $500. The New York State Education Department in conjunction with the NYS Board of Regents presented Scholarships for Academic Excellence to Katherine Bagley and Joshua Wombles for $500, and to Megan Walling for $1500. The Clifton & Priscilla Smith Scholarship, recognizing positive citizenship, awarded $3,000 to Carlie Brown, as was the George Douglas/LPGA Corning Classic Scholarship for $5,000, which recognizes good citizenship and outstanding academic achieve- |
