Steuben clerk to seek reelection

BATH - Steuben County Clerk Judith Hunter will run for a fourth term, forcing a

Republican Party primary with a challenger from her office.

Hunter, 60, of Bath, will face Vicki Olin, of Hornellsville, in the Republican Primary on Sept. 18. Olin is a veteran desk clerk in the Clerk's office.

Hunter said service to county residents has been a priority since she was first elected to office in 1996.

"It has always been my goal to consistently provide personable, friendly, knowledgeable and courteous service," she said.

Hunter said she has worked with the county Legislature to improve accountability in both the financial and data services in her departmen .

She also initiated a plan to restore and preserve county archives, and consolidated and restructured the local Department of Motor Vehicles processing, Hunter said.

Local revenues have also been boosted through her public announcements to register vehicles at DMV offices in Steuben County instead of through the state, she said.

In addition, the office has become well-structured and operates smoothly due to reference manuals developed during her ten ure, Hun er said.

Hunter has been married for 40 years. She h as three children and six grandchildren.

Candidates for county and town offices began collecting signatures for office Monday.
