HAMMONDSPORT HAPPENINGS + Three seniors, two from Bath's Haverling High School and one from Hammondsport Central School were awarded Helen Rubar memorial Peace Scholarships in early June at the Third Annual Peace Banquet at the PeaceWeaver Retreat Sanctuary, Crouse Rd., Bath. The two Haverling students were Megan Archer and Maureen Flint; the Hammondsport student - Mary Allen; each receiving $350 toward their college education. This 9h Annual Peace Scholarship is co-sponsored by the Bath Peace and Justice Group and the PeaceWeavers. Those attending the banquet were treated to a gourment Italian Dinner and heard past and present scholoarship recipients talk about how the are being a voice for peace and justice in their own unique way. The banquet was open to the public for a $10 cost. Kids 18 and younger were free. Helen Rubar of Bath spent her life being devoted to her community, her church, her nation and planet through countless volunteer work, caring deeply about child welfare and literacy, helping the sick, hungry and imprisioned. + Hammondsport Alumni Association will hold its 105th Annual Meeting and Dinner at the Hammondsport Fire Department Hall, Saturday, July 28. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. with dinner following at 7 p.m. Interested Alumni may contact Kelly Bussman, Alumni Association Secretary at hportalu@ linkny.com. Robert Shuart is President of the Alumni Association. + The Director of the Greyton H. Taylor Wine Museum and Art Gallery, Paul Sprague, says the Museum opened in early May and has had many visitors since, with visitors coming from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday; 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. He reminded people that Mr. Taylor's late son, Walter S. Taylor, created over 300 art works seen in the Art Gallery. + At the Hammondsport Central High School auditorium on May 24, The Three Little Pits, written and directed by retired Hammondsport Central School teacher Jo Ann Mitchell, including a cast of over forty Hammondsport Central School students including "the three liffle pigs, Arianna Turner, Alyson Binnert and Aaron Lowin who testified agains Big Bad Wolf in the 4th through 6th grad musical "The Trial of the Century." + Richard and Janet McCandless of Bath, formerly of Hammondsport celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a surprise celebration at Bully Hill Vineyards given by their children. He was a teacher at Hammondsport Central School and she worked for Pleasant Valley Wine Company, later Bully Hill Vineyards. There were over sixty family members and friends present at the luncheon. The couple were wed June 15, 1957, in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Northampton, Pennsylvania. Revs. A.S. Deibert and Charles Schlitzer performed the ceremony. They have three children: Cherl (Michael) Billings of Victor, Todd, of Greece and Kevin (Lisa) of Victor; five grandchildren: Brett, Kristina and Megan Billings and Jack and Drew McCandless. Church news: + St. Gabriel's Catholic Church: 78 Shethar Street. St. Gabriels welcomes back its summer parishioners. Our liturgies/parish life are fuller and livelier when you are with us. Anyone having photos (digital or hard copy) of parish events, the church would like to barrow them for the pages of informal photographs at the beginning of the new Directory they are making. Call the parish office for details. + St. James Episcopal Church: Corner of Lake and Main Street: 9 a.m. today is Holy Eucharist and Sunday Sc hool. Assisting the Rector with parts in the worship are: L. Nichiporuk, Chalice; N. Forenz, Acolytes; J. Skinner and Cecil Van Houten; Readers; T. Bidwell and C. Bidwell, Ushers. + First United Methodist Church: Lower Lake Street. The week-long ecumenical Bible School at this church begins June 25, going through the 29th. Classes run daily from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Community Vacation Bible School theme is "Take the Plunge and Make a Splash with Jesus." There will be a water park and Bible adventure the kids will love. Teens/adults will be assisting from each church. + First Presbyterian Church of Hammondsport and Pulteney: Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. in Pulteney: 11 a.m. in Hammondsport with Rev. Anne Waasdorp, Interim Pastor in charge. Sunday, June 10 there was a special coffee hour following church to honor the three young people active in the Hammondsport Church who are June high school graduates: Megan Walling, Rebecca Shied and Glenn Mishell each received a gift and were asked what they are going to do next year, they all said they were continuing their education as follows: Megan, from Hammondsport Central School will attend at RIT in Rochester; Beckie from Haverling High School will attend Niagra University and Glenn will attend at Binghamton University. The second year of the church's Farmers Market begins Saturday, June 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in charge of Bryan Braman and Georgina Griswald. It will be open all summer at the church on Saturdays. Offered will be fresh produce, Baked goods, etc. Coffee also will b offered with not charge, for an opportunity for conversation. Thursday, June 28 will see a Congregational Dinner at the Church beginning at 6:30 p.m. Bring a dish to pass and table service and join in the last monthly dinner until September. Following the meal, John Wilderman will continue our education regarding "Sustainability." The Touch of Brass, a Rochester sacred music group of men will be taking part in a 11 a.m. service sometime in July. The date will be announced. At the Pulteney Church, each
