Learn how to preserve the peak of the harvest

Before those beautiful gardens start overwhelming you with pounds of produce, take a Saturday break and learn how to Preserve the Peak of the Harvest. This half day workshop will be held at the Addison Community Center, 110 Community Drive, Addison on July 14 from 9:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. It is sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben County.

Master Preserver and Extension Nutrition Educator Jon Sterlace will lead the group in a number of hands-on activities including canning and freezing of fruits and vegetables and approved techniques in the use of the boiling water bath and pressure canner. He will offer an update on food safety in food preservation.

The workshop is open to the public and is for both beginners or as an update for seasoned food preservers. A $5 charge includes light refreshments as well as an instructional packet and canned products to take home. Pre-registration is requested by Monday, July 9 by calling 607-664-2300.
