Local students graduate from college

+ Chrissandra L. Hayes, a resident of Savona, received a Bachelor of Arts Cum Laude in Biology from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Alfred University during commencement exercises May 12, 2007, at McLane Center on the AU campus.

Hayes is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Michael Hayes of Savona. She is a graduate of Campbell-Savona Central School.

Hayes was among the 13 doctoral degree recipients, 104 master's degree recipients and 454 baccalaureate degree recipients, who heard Dr. Madeline A. Dalton, AU class of 1983, associate professor in pediatrics, Dartmouth Medical School, and director of the Hood Center for Children and Families, delivered the commencement address, "Lessons of an Alfred Graduate." She also received an honorary doctor of science degree in recognition of her groundbreaking research linking teen-agers seeing smoking portrayed in movies and in starting smoking themselves.

+ Joseph Underhill, a senior marketing major at Alfred University, was recognized as a recipient of the Howard R. Neville Award for Excellence in Economics and Newmark SeniorAward for Entrepreneurial Promise during the University's annual spring Honor's Convocation April 20.

The Howard R. Neville Award is presented to a junior and senior economics student who has achieved an outstanding record in the discipline. The Newmark Senior Award is a scholarship awarded annually to an outstanding business senior planning to pursue his education in graduate school. The award is supported by and named for Theodore Newmark, business entrepreneur and longtime friend and benefactor of higher education and Alfred University.

Underhill is a son of Richard and Jeanette Underhill of Bath, and a graduate of Prattsburgh Central School.

+ Joseph Brown of Savona graduated from SUNY Geneseo in December of 2006. He received a Bachelor degree of Science Education and Childhood Education.

+ Laura Jenkins of Bath graduated from SUNY Geneseo in December of 2006. She received a Bachelor degree of Arts, Mathematics, Adol Edu: Math.
