HAMMONDSPORT HAPPENINGS

• Well, the 4th of July has come and gone and we have proudly celebrated another Independence Day. This year the celebration was several days early in Hammondsport when their Fire Department celebrated it on Thurs day, Friday and Saturday, June 28- June 30 with clam specials on the first day, Waterball and Live music with the Bill Thompson Band and Saturday, the last day with Fire Truck rides at noon for the kids, Chicken BBQ at noon by Troup l8 and bike giveaways all three days sponsored by Pete's Automotive, Shirley's Lumber and Sears of Bath, by Wheat & Fitzpatrick, and by LaMarche Funeral Home. Bike Helments were supplied by Vine City Supply Wheelllock Rides. A BIG THANKS to all! There was a raffle Saturday at 9 p.m. the last day after a large parade beginning events at 6 p.m. Fireworks were held beginning at 10:30 p.m. Saturday eve. We thank our firemen for all they do for the community besides their fire preventions, fighting fires, etc.

• The Branchport/Keuka Park Fire Department's Annual 4th of July Celebration took place on July 4th complete with a l2 noon (until all was eaten) Chicken BBQ held at the Branchport Firehouse. At 2 p.m. there was a big parade from North End Marina, south of the four cornerss at Branchport, ending at the Branchport School. And, at l0 p.m. that day, there were fireworks by Young Explosives shot off from behind the fire station. Besides all of the above, at 9 p.m., the eighth Keuka Lake Lighted Boat Parade made a beautiful sight as they began near the Basin at Branchport!

• The Wine Country Senior Citizens will meet on July 10 at 5:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, for dinner. Please bring a dish to share and your place setting. Food committee is Kathryn and Jack Wood and Evelyn and Bob Bussman. All seniors are urged to attend! There will be entertainment following the meal!

• Reserve the date of July 28 for the eight gathering of the WWII War Years Classes at Hammondsport Central School with Charles Champlin and new host Paul Wood, from 12 Noon - 2:30pm at the Pleasant Val ley Wine Company's Visitors Center located on the flatland below the winery. More details later.

• Any time during opening hours July 1-31, will be the Curtiss Museums Vintage Motorcycle Exhibit! Don't miss it, it is one of their best and is in honor of its namesake's cycle abilities and first love!

• The Keuka Lake Art Association's Annual Art Show began yesterday, July 7 continuing today in the Village Square. This is their 41st Show, arn't 'Portian artists and others lucky?

• The Hammondsport Summer Concert Series in the Band Stand on the Village Square are bringing out people to enjoy the music. Sponsored this season by Hammondsport's Five Star Ecumenical church news:

• Mitchellsville Methodist Church welcomes you to a Strawberry Festival on Saturday, July 14 from 4-7 p.m. The full menu includes hot dogs with meat sauce and chips for $3 PLUS EITHER/OR Strawberry sundae with home-made ice cream; Strawberry shortcake with biscuit: $3.50 and beverages.

• First Friday Fellowship met in the undercroft of St. James Episcopal Church Hammondsport, Friday evening, July 6 at 7 p.m. This ecumenical gathering is open to anyone who enjoys Christian praise and worship music. Bring your musical instruments to help make a joyful noise! It is held in the churches the first Friday of each month, for more information on First Friday, see www.fffship.www.fffship.com.

• St. Gabriel's Catholic Church: 78 Shethar Street. St. Gabriels welcomes back its summer parishioners once again! Congratulations to Susannee Morris Our Religious Education program assistant After many years of hard work, Sue has graduated from Elmira Cottage with a at their convenience prior to the weekend to clean the sanctuary and take care of flowers, candles, sacred vessels and holy water. Please contact the parish office if needing more info, or to volunteer.

• St. James Episcopal Church, corner of Lake and Main Street: July 8 is 6 Pentecost; Assisting Rector Curtis with this July 8 9:00am Holy Eucharist service: N. Forenz, Chalice; J. Grillo; Acolytes; N. Torp, J. Skinner; Readers: T. Dykas, S. Dykas; Ushers. • First United Methodist Church: lower Lake Street. The week-long ecumenical Bible School at this church June 25, going through the 29th, again was a great success. Classes ran daily from 9 a.m.-12 noon and each volunteer teacher had the opportunity to teach all of the age groups this year. The theme this year was "Take the Plunge and Make a Splash with Jesus." There was a water park and Bible adventures the kids loved. Many teens and adults assisted from each church and the churches work diligently together. Another testimony is Lenten time where they are work together to prepare meditations and serve lunch following. We are truly blessed!

• First Presbyterian Churches of Hammondsport and Pulteney: Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. in Pulteney; 11 a.m. in Hammondsport. This Sunday, one service only at Hammondsport, at 9:30 a.m., The Touch of Brass is returning to Hammondsport Church. Friends and summer tourist are free to join in the celebration. No charge to anyone. Breakfast before service in Undercroft for a free will Offering! Enjoy Each Thursday at l0 a.m. at the Pulteney Church, all are invited to come to the church for prayer and Bible study focusing on Wayne Muller's book, SABBATH. EACH SATURDAY from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. there is a Farmer's Market sale in front of the Hammondsport Church. Members are asked to contribute any fruit or vegetable produce and baked goods for sale that they can. If you can work a few hours, see Georgina or Bryan. On Art Show weekend, all the community are welcome to hear The Touch of Brass beginning at 9:30 a.m. Before the program there is a continuing breakfast in the undercroft for a good will offering from 8-

Bank, July continues to offer a true mix of talented musicians every Thursday beginning at 6 p.m. Bring your supper and chairs or blankets for the family for Thursday, July 12's Speer, Specker & Henrie Master's Degree in Education. St. Gabriels Perish says "Great Job, Sue!

The church is in need of volunteers for altar duty for the months of July and September. Teams have two people who come to the church thanked the Methodist Church for hosting this annual Ecumenical Bible School and the host church thanked all the churches for helping them. Hammondsport is a small village where all the churches love each other and Griswold and Linda Kressly, and Donna Colvin of Pulteney.Come and enjoy!

On this Saturday and Sunday of the Art Show, Strawberry Shortcake will be sold all day Saturday and Sunday after worship.
