Steve Meisner Band to entertain region's polka lovers in Horseheads

HORSEHEADS - Area polka lovers will have a chance to two-step the night away when the Steve Meisner Band performs July 28 at the Horseheads Elks Club on Grove Road.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with free polka lessons beginning at 7 p.m. Dancing to the live orchestra will be from 8 p.m. to midnight.

The Meisner Band, based in Whitewater, Wis., plays a variety of polka music, along with swing, waltz, fox trot, country, latin and pop. The band averages more than 200 appearances annually and is highly sought after by polka promoters.

As a precursor to the July 28 dance, a special two-hour polka dance workshop will be held July 23 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Big Flats American Legion. The workshop is structured for both beginning and advanced polka dancers. Several polka styles will taught by polka experts Susanne Van Orman and Matt Yaninas. Preregistration is required and a nominal fee will be charged for the class. For more information, call 527- 9445.

Tickets for the July 28 dance are $14 per person and $6 for individuals under 15, who must be accompanied by an adult.
