Elizabeth L. "Betty" Colomaio HORNELL - Elizabeth L. "Betty" Colomaio, 87, formerly of Hornell, died Sunday evening, July 8, in Marietta, Georgia, where she has resided for the past five years. Born in Niagara Falls on Oct. 18, 1919, she was the daughter of Loren and Ethel (Starr) Potter. Betty was a lifelong resident of Hornell and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1938.) Following high school she attended St. James School of Nursing. She had been employed as a nurse's aid at St. James Mercy Hospital for many years, retiring about 25 years ago. Following her retirement, Batty served as a volunteer at St. James Hospital. She was a former member of the Eastern Star; past president of the Irving School PTA; and had been active in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She also had been a member of the Park United Methodist Church in Hornell. She was married on Feb. 2, 1946 to Peter A. Colomaio who died May 3, 1987. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert Potter, her sister-in-law, Betty Potter; her brother-inlaw, Harold Robbins and her nephew-in-law, Jeff Briggs. Surviving are her two sons, Anthony (Eileen) Colomaio of Bath and Peter (Patricia) Colomaio of Bradford, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Joyce (John) Dudbar of Acworth, Georgia; her in-laws, Tony and Maggie Montemarano, Helen Robbins, Mary and Ezio Fiacco, Rose and Joe DiCosimo and Matt and Mary Colomaio all of Hornell; eight grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. The family of Elizabeth L. "Betty" Colomaio received friends on Thursday, July 19, from 5-8 p.m. at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, where funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 20, with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Burial was held in St. Mary's Cemetery. Betty's family request that memorial contributions in her name be made to Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 East Corning Road, Corning, NY 14 8 3 0 .
