Let's use some facts in Wal-Mart debate
To the Editor,

I am 100% in favor of having a Wal-Mart store in Bath. To those people outside the Town of Bath, if you are against it, move into the town and start paying taxes.

To those who live in the Town, do your homework and stop making wild accusations that are not backed with facts. For example:

- How many trucks is it going to take on a daily basis to supply the store?

- How is it going to effect the area outside the village of Bath?

- How is the new traffic going to affect daily life?

- So what if there is nine Wal- Marts' within 50 miles of Bath? Why do I have to drive 30 miles to buy what I need? Gasoline is still $3 a gallon.

- Exactly how many local businesses is it going to effect and how many sales tax dollars are going to be lost?

- How can it effect downtown Bath? There is nothing there to effect.

- If nobody wants it there will be no increase in traffic.

So what if what you imply (again without facts) is right the worst that can happen is they build a new facility and don't succeed and we end up with an empty building.

In the village of Bath, 53% of taxable properties are tax exempt. That equates to 47% are burden with the taxes so you people can come to Bath and drive around for nothing.

In today's paper a recent survey showed that 225,000 people left New York State between July 2005 and July 2006.

It is because of groups like you that is causing this to happen. Take time to look at the bigger picture and quit thinking about yourselves.

Assume we were to lose $50,000 in sales tax for $200,000. This would put the Town of Bath in a position to keep the taxes dollar here and not send them to Albany and get them back when and if they feel like.
