Majority of Bath residents need a Wal-Mart
To the Editor,

In response to Beth Miller's letter of July 15, 2007, Beth is making a last ditch effort to influence the Bath town board and the general population of the greater Bath area to reject a Wal-Mart store.

Going back to the days of Colonel Williamson's vision of developing an area he came upon with nothing but sage brush and odds and ends of trees, the good Colonel did a great job. But, Beth, that was 300 plus years ago. Let the good Colonel rest, this is 2007.

Right now Bath is in regression like many small communities. Main Street America is done as the main shopping area of any community. American people love large, one stop shopping stores and malls. Bath area residents are no exception.

The proposed site of the Wal- Mart complex in Bath is not destroying scenery or taking homes away from anyone. The site is already a commercial site. The town of Bath is ninety-five plus square miles, much of which is small farms or just scenic rolling hills and valleys. The proposed Wal-Mart store in Bath would attract other small business as it has in Watkins Glen and Geneseo, both of which are also small towns. The proposed Wal-Mart store the majority of people of the greater Bath area need and want will mean progress for Bath
