BATH - The Clothing Shed is a fundraising clothing project maintained, monitored and supported by the Quota International Club of Bath.
The shed is located in the parking lot behind St. Mary's Church on Morris Street. Donated clothing is picked up weekly by truck and transferred to St. Pauly's of Farmington since 1996.
St. Pauly's picks up the donations at the drop off locations, gathers them into 1,000 pound bundles and ships to 44 different Third World countries, as well as here in the United States. The clothing is used as wearable clothing and is not cut up and shredded. Athletic running shoes and sneakers with rubber soles are recycled and used to build jogging tracks at schools and physical fitness centers.
In 2006, over 19 million garments were shipped from the Farmington facility. In 2007, it is estimated that 26 million pieces will be shipped to people around the world.
St. Pauly's has given over $1.3 million back to local non profit organizations throughout Western New York. The monies received in Bath has been distributed locally to the Domestic Violence Center Women's Shelter, Rotary Club sidewalk project, three scholarship Funds, Victims of Hurricane Katrina, St. Mary's Church Youth Group, Methodist Church Thanksgiving Baskets, Bath High School Choir, Bath Community Day Care, American Red Cross for flood victims in the Binghamton area, Tyrtle Beach, Relay for Live Cancer fundraiser, Crop Walk, Bath Humane Society and a dontion to a family who lost their home to a hazardous fire.
Quota members monitor the shed to make it convenient for pickup by St. Pauly. Donations are gratefully accepted
