Can't understand case against Wal-Mart Why would anyone not want a Wal-Mart in Bath... our County Seat is now a center for Services from our Government... there has been many business closures over the past five years; there have been few Specialty stores openings... we have to drive 50 miles roundtrip to buy anything in the craft, gift or home supplies. I'll continue to buy my lawnmowers from Ward's, appliances from Sear's electrical and plumbing needs from Pete but I need Wal-Mart in Bath-until they come, I will drive to Hornell or Painted Post... because, as we've harped for 30 years, when you go to the Arnot Mall and Consumer Square, your tax on your purchases stay in Chemung County... buy in Bath, Corning and Hornell... the tax stays in Steuben County and reduces your property taxes... Wal- Mart in Bath would bring some of those tax dollars back into Steuben County.
And those that work for Wal-Mart are earning way about the minimum wage... which would be welcome by many of our residents. |
