Niemczyk drops out of county race BATH - The three-way Republican primary race for the Steuben County Legislature's Bath District 3 has been reduced to two candidates. Rosalie Niemczyk, 68, has announced she is with drawing her bid for the seat, to be vacated by retiring county Legislator Ron Nielsen. Nielsen is stepping down due to term limits. Niemczyk said she recently accepted a job offer that will allow her to work at home and continue to serve on the Bath school board. "Unfortunately, it will not allow me to spend the time I feel is necessary to campaign for the Legislature," Niemczyk said. "I wish it were not so, but it is. Maybe some other time." Niemczyk's decision leaves two Republicans in the race: Robin Lattimer and Lawrence Crossett. An aide to state Assemblyman James Bacalles, R-Corning, and Town of Bath councilwoman, Lattimer faces former County Treasurer Lawrence Crossett in the Republican Primary on Sept. 18. The winner faces Democrat Gary Ostrander in the Nov. 6 general election. Niemczyk endorsed Lattimer, saying she presents diversity in the allmale Legislature, but said she would be unable to actively campaign on Lattimer's behalf. |
