PRATTSBURGH - A 37- year-old Prattsburgh man was charged with seconddegree

grand larceny for allegedly stealing more than $50,000 worth of brass from Kennedy Valve in Elmira, state police at Horseheads said Friday, July 27.

Chad R. Conklin, of County Route 122, was arraigned in Chemung County Court and jailed on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 property bond. He will appear in court at a later date.

According to troopers, Conklin was employed at Kennedy Valve at the time he allegedly stole eight 2,500-pound pallets of brass from the business.

After allegedly stealing the brass, Conklin is accused of selling it to a scrap yard in the town of Wheeler.

Conklin allegedly used proceeds of the stolen brass to purchase a lawn tractor and a vehicle. Those items were seized under the direction of the Steuben County District Attorney's Office.

In addition to the larceny count, Conklin is charged with criminal possession of stolen property after police found the stolen brass at his residence.

The Elmira Police Department assisted with the investigation.
