John Charles Fremont Howe
Friends and family called at the Bottoni-Wood Funeral Home, 4 Mechanic St., Prattsburgh from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 2. His funeral service was held immediately following at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Jared Tozier officiating. Interment followed at Rural Cemetery in Prattsburgh. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetic Association, 595 Blossom Rd., Suite 208, Rochester, NY 14610 or to the Stockholm Museum, C/O Stockholm Historical Society, 280 Main St., Stockholm, Maine 04783. John was born August 8, 1924 in Stockholm, Maine to the late Irving Z. and Claudia Tall Howe. He served as a PFC in the Service Company, 12th Infantry Regiment of the U S Army from 1943 to 1945. He received many medals including a 5 Box Silver Stars. He was self-employed as a barber in Stockholm and Prattsburgh. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Prattsburgh and the NYS Sheriff's Deputy Assc. He was an avid hunter (hunter safety instructor for many years), fisherman, sports fan, and enjoyed playing the piano by ear. John is survived by his brother, Russell Howe of Prattsburgh; several nieces and nephews; and daughter, Gail M. Walton of North Carolina. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Mable; and seven sisters, Katherine, Ethel, Gertrude, Phyllis, Virginia, Louise, and Irvina.
