Mary Leiderbach

HAMMONDSPORT - Mary Leiderbach of 50 Lake Street, Hammondsport, entered into peaceful rest after a short illness on July 31.

Mary was the eldest daughter of Nannie (Fox) and David L. Ellenberger. She married Leo Leiderbach on June 30, 1927 at the home of her parents in Clarion County, Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Clarion Normal School and prior to her marriage, taught school, grades 1- 8 in a one-room schoolhouse. She and her husband Leo moved to Hammondsport in 1931, living in the same home for 76 years. She was a faithful member of the Hammondsport Presbyterian Church, a member and recent honorary member of the Hammondsport Woman's Club, and an original member of the local Bridge Club. She was a homemaker, devoted to her family. She was active in the Home Bureau, Kings Daughters and other church activities, and was known for her baking skills.

She was predeceased by her parents; sisters, Grace Confer and Edna Pence; a brother, Roy Ellenberger. She was also predeceased by her beloved husband Leo; and daughter Mildred Brissenden; and her granddaughter, Jan Brissenden.

She is survived by her daughters, Leona L. Brainerd of Fairport, Kay Leiderbach of Hammondsport, and Lynette Leiderbach of Arizona; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Friends and family called at the LaMarche Funeral Home in Hammondsport from 1-3 p.m. on Friday, August 3. Her funeral service was held immediately following at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Anne Waasdorp officiating. Interment followed at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Hammondsport Volunteer Ambulance, or a charity of your choice.

She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. Aloha!
