Bath woman dies in two-vehicle crash
BY MARY PERHAM THE LEADER

BATH - A Bath woman due to be married next weekend died Thursday afternoon, August 2, in a two-vehicle accident near Interstate Highway 86 Exit 39 in the town of Bath.

State troopers reported Deborah Hyer, 53, tried to make a U-turn with her 1997 Chevrolet on State Route 415 North at the intersection with Worth Road. Hyer's vehicle was struck on the driver's side by a 1999 Ford pickup truck as she entered the south bound lane, troopers said.

Hyer was removed from her vehicle by the Bath Volunteer Fire Department and transported to Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to state police.

The driver of the truck, Jeffrey Stone, 42, of Campbell, was treated at the scene by Bath Ambulance, troopers reported.

No charges are expected to be filed, troopers reported.

Hyer's death saddened her former colleagues at the Bath Building Company, on West Morris Street.

"She was a good worker," said store Assistant Manager Susie Womelsdorf. "She'd still drop in to see us after she left She was a real pleasant person and she was enjoying her life."

A 1972 graduate of Savona Central School and mother of four boys, Hyer planned to marry Ray Pickering of Bath next week.

She is also survived by her mother, two sisters and a brother.

Calling hours were held from 7-9 p.m. Monday, August 6, at Seager Funeral Home in Savona. Funeral services were held there at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 7.
