'Save The Lyon' not part of Wal-Mart
To the Editor,

Because of the public's right to know the facts, Save-the-Lyon Comm., Inc. (STLC) feels compelled to respond to Leonard O'Dell's "Letter to the Editor" (Courier, Aug. 5,2007.)

Somehow, Mr. O'Dell mixes the altruistic aims of STLC (and its legions of alumni supporters) with the corporate giant, Wal-Mart. We don't know how Mr. O'Dell constructed this "bridge," but his observations merit an immediate correction.

The Primary Annex belongs to us through the beneficence of the Davenport-Waterman families. Thanks to the labors of Jerry Hobbs, Walt Longwell and George Walike, this circa 1900 building was soundly "mothballed" for security with the advice of architect Clinton Brown.

Unfortunately, for a period of time, the 1923 addition, was not properly cared for, with Mr. Billings in Florida for most of the year and Mr. Krog from out-of-area. That has now been corrected and the tennis courts have been recently weeded and cleaned up. Take a much closer look as you drive by, Mr. O'Dell.

Lastly, we on the STLC take umbrage to the attempt to further slap us in the face by attacking a negative intonation to the term, "dogooders."

As we started out, what does all of this have to do with Wal-Mart, anyway?
