Criminal possession

Steuben County Sheriff''s deputies last week arrested Jeremy Benjamin, 18, of 81 N. Main St., Avoca, charging him with one count of thirddegree criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance.

Benjamin allegedly sold cocaine to another individual in the Town of Bath. He was remanded to the Steuben County Jail on $5,000 bail or a $10,000 property bond and is to appear before county Judge Peter Bradstreet at a later date.

Traffic accident

Sheriff's deputies last week charged Vernon F. Towner, 75, of state Route 415 with failure to yield the right of way following a traffic accident on Aug. 9 in Avoca.

Deputies allege Towner turned into the path of an ongoing vehicle, forcing it into guide rails along the roadway. No injuries were reported.

Unlicensed operation

Twenty-six-year-old Deanna J. Pisaneschi was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and operating with a suspended registration after she crashed a vehicle along Bean Station Road in the Town of Prattsburgh last week.

She is to appear in Prattsburgh court at a later date.

Accident

Four people were injured Aug. 12 when a southbound vehicle on state Route 54 crossed the center line and collided head-on with a northbound vehicle.

The driver of the southbound vehicle, Casey Delles, 18, of Prattsburgh, was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of leg, hip and arm fractures. A front seat passenger of Delles's vehicle, Ashley Robbins, 17, of Avoca, was transported to ira Davenport Hospital suffering a fractured jaw and was later transferred to Strong.

The driver of the northbound vehicle, Donald Zimmer, 52, of Campbell, was transported to ira Davenport Hospital with leg and hand fractures and was later transferred to Arnot Ogden Hospital. A rear seat passenger in the Zimmer vehicle, Jared Fisher, 20, of Avoca, was airlifted to Arnot Ogden Hospital with head and neck injuries.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Bath police department, New York State Department of Transportation, Bath ambulance volunteers, Bath firefighters, Hammondsport firefighters and emergency medical personnel, Gurthrie Air and Mercy Flight Central.

An investigation of the accident is continuing.
