Kuhl's 'packing' comment troubling I could not help reflecting upon a statement made by Congressman Randy Kuhl in a recent interview with a Democrat and Chronicle reporter in which he is quoted as saying that due to his staff safety and office security concerns that he has though about "packing"; a term for carrying a weapon, presumably a hand gun. Apparently this misplaced display of macho defensiveness derived from the efforts of peace activists to end the criminal participation of the Cheney/Bush administration's violence, done to our men and women in uniform to whom we owe so much, would also end. The sentiment expressed by Congressman Kuhl to "pack" a weapon is difficult to reconcile with the misuse of weapons by Republican politicians such as when Cheney shot his hunting partner in the face not to mention other examples. Politicians and particularly Republicans who avoided service through deferments (five deferments for Dick Cheney) but condone state sponsored violence while misusing weapons of sportsmen provide ammunition to those who would abolish legitimate gun use and mock the very image of responsible protectors of society that they try to portray.
