Legion Auxiliary The American Legion Auxiliary of Unit 173 meets every second Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Charles Wescott Post on William St., Bath. Communication problems? The Center for Dispute Settlement is offering a free service to Steuben County residents to help with communication skills. The service is for residents under the age of 21. Help and support for homeschoolers Bath Area LEAH (Loving at Education at Home) would like to extend an invitation to all new and seasoned homeschoolers to join then in the coming year for support and fellowship as we begin a new school year. LEAH is a Statewide nondenominational Christian organization that offers support, advice and opportunities to share with fellow homeschoolers at a local level. Beginning in September, Bath LEAH will meet on the last Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Bethel Assembly of God in Bath for a potluck with activities following. CLAM BAKE CHICKEN BBQ The Bath American Legion Post #173 will hold a clam bake chicken BBQ from 1-6 p.m. Sept. 8 at the legion. Ticket includes; salt potatoes, baked beans, salad, chicken 1/4, 2 doz. clams, draft beer and music. The cost is $15 per ticket and an extra $5 for an extra dozen of clams. Special Education Advocacy Training The Advocacy Center announces Lay Advocacy Training for parents of children with developmental disabilities. The training will be held from 10:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. on Thursdays from Sept. 27- Nov. 15 in Bath. There is no fee for the training. Parents who complete this training may be asked to assist other families with advocacy issues in the year following the training. The training prepares parents to better advocate for their own children and to assist other parents in their area with educational advocacy. Bath VA Walking Tours To demonstrate the pride of the Bath VA, the Bath VA Dietetic Staff will conduct walking tours of the grounds every Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. until Sept. 29, 2007. Registration is from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and judging will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. 63 trophies and 200 dash plaques, goodie bags, D.J., food and soft drinks will be available. Savona Cinderella Softball The Savona Cinderella Softball annual meeting, election of officers and picnic will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Savona Village Park. Steve Jacobs benefit A benefit for Steve Jacobs will be held Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to midnight at the Cohocton Legion. Family hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., adults only from 7-12 p.m. Donation is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Donation includes dinner, three bands and DJ. For more information call 566-2111 or 585-384- 5445. 14th Annual Genundowa Festival The 14th Annual Genundowa Festival will be held Labor Day weekend, Sept. 1 and 2 in the Hammondsport Village Square. Festivities in the Village Square will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Celebration Fire and Social Dance at the Lakefront: music at 8 p.m., fire lighting at 9 p.m., social dance from 9- 10 p.m. As in the past, activities in the park will showcase Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) and Native American culture. Dramatic desserts Eat your dinner early on Sept. 8 because Keuka Lake Players is presenting a dessert theater at 6 p.m. at Hickory Hill Camping Resort, 7531 Mitchellsville Road, Bath. "An Evening of One Acts," featuring "Mokey's Paw" and "Ledge, Ledger, and the Legend" will also include scrumptious desserts served during intermission. A silent auction of unique items will also take place. Tickets are only $10 and are available at Hickory Hill, but it is recommended that you reserve your tickets by calling 776-4345. Seating is limited. Hport Ecumentical Progressive Dinner The churches of Hammondsport invites the public to attend their Progressive Dinner on Sept. 7. All proceeds from dinner will benefit the local disaster relief fund of the Greater Steuben Chapter American Red Cross. Dinner will include four courses and each course will be prepared by and served at one of the Hammondsport Churches. The dinner schedule and locations are:

Route 54 railroad crossing The New York State Department of Transportation, Steuben County Industrial Development Agency and the Steuben County Department of Public Works have obtained permission to remove the stopping requirement at the State Route 54 railroad crossing just north of Bath and at the State Route 54A railraod crossing in the Village of Hammondsport. The railroad is no longer in service at these crossings. "Exempt signs" have been erected which remove the stopping requirement. Seeking cooks Te Health Ministry of the Southern Tier Corning is seeking cooks for its Chili and Salsa Cookoff Sept. 29 in the Corning Centerway Parking Facility. The event will benefit the Health Minstry, which provides dental and medical services for the uninsured. It is being sponsored by Corning's Gaffer District, CASI, and various local businesses. participants can compete for freestyle chili, CASI(Chili Association Society International), salsa and best booth.
