HAMMONDSPORT HAPPENINGS
Yesterday and today is Genundowa Day in Hammondsport. The Festival of Lights last night at Depot Park on Keuka Lake were truly amazing. Be sure to come to the Village Park today to see all the wonderful things to buy and enjoy made by our Indian friends. Until the village sponsored this great Genundowa Day, activities were just about gone by the beginning of September and a lot of cottagers also had packed their bags and just about shut down their homes until next summer! But, now most stay until Genundowa musicians and Booths have packed up and left the village.
Up on the West Side of Keuka last night the Ring of Fire was watched at a special 30th Anniversary event at Heron Hill Winery 6-10 p.m.
September 4 at Hammondsport Central School is a conference Day for Teachers and Staff! Students return on Wednesday, September 5; Senior Magazine Sales 6, by meeting at their new president's home, on North Urbana Hill Road. Please bring a dish-topass and table service as usual.
The other officers for 2007-2008 are Linda Kressly Vice President; Dorie Lundy, Secretary; Leonora Decker, Treasurer; Marilynne Eckel, Chaplain. President Koster thought at the first meeting it would be fun for each to tell a little bit about her life while the group enjoys good food and good company!
The fall meeting of the Steuben County Historical Society is Saturday, September 8 at l2:30 p.m. at the Bath Presbyterian Church located on the Square, 6 Morris Street, Bath. The menu, for $12.00, offers Cold Salad Plate, Chicken & Pasta Salads, Cottage Cheese, Roll/butter, Apple Crisp with topping, Beverages. The program following the meal will have Kirk House presenting the address prepared by Dr. John Martin, who will not be able to be there. The topic is "Racial Keuka Corkers Red Hat Society regarding the U.S.A Soldiers they correspond with in Iraq and send packages to frequently, mail to the Platton stops on September l5 2007, according to an an e-mail from Major Aitkens in late August. They are in their final months on duty in the war, but do not have a definite date as to when they come home. They will let the Red Hats know when they know.
The Keuka Corkers recently for their August "Special Day" were invited to join the Gorges Gals Red Hatters of Ithaca to join them at a luncheon at the Ithaca Country Club with enertainment following!

The First Annual Davenport & Taylor 10k will be Saturday, September 8 coinciding Runners will have the choice of running by themselves or with a team/family of 4 members. Those who pre-registered by September 1 received a discount on the entrance fee. As far as the Annual Health Fair there are free health screening for area families. Much of this will be provided by the Davenport & Taylor Auxiliary. On display may be a medical transport helicopter, fire truck and ambulance.
Church news:
St. Gabriel's Catholic Church: Mass on Saturday: 5:30 p.m.; On August 26: was the last of the summer 8:30 a.m. Masses Beginning today there is just one Mass at 11 a.m. until summer 2008 comes along.
Religious Education Program: begins Very soon. The church mails registration forms to parents. RE begins soon and is held in the Parish House and McGill Hall Sundays from 9:45-10:45 a.m. This church has appetizers at the Red Cross Progressive dinner Thursday at l2:l5 p.m.
First Presbyterian Churches of Hammonsport and Pulteney: The Altar flowers in Pulteney in the middle Sunday of August, were placed in memory of Mike Tietjen by his daughter, Pam Finger. Each Thursday at 10 a.m., there is prayer and Bible Study focusing on Wayne Muller's book, Sabbath. The main course of Hammondsport area churches Progressive Dinner to raise money for the local American Red Cross will be held at the Hammondsport Presbyterian Church.
Each Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. a Farmer's Market and Bake Sale continues in front of the church.
