Molly Martin Tyler HAMMONDSPORT - Molly Martin Tyler, 81, of Lake Placid, Florida, and Hammondsport, passed away Monday, August 27, in Tomoka Heights, Lake Placid, Florida, from complications from ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease. She was born June 24, 1926 in Penn Yan, the daughter of Fred and Virginia Vail Martin. Molly lived in Hammondsport for most of her life, and attended Hammondsport schools. She was a graduate of the Rochester Business Institute (RBI), and worked for the president of the school for several years after graduation. She and her late husband Harland W. Tyler, were employed by the Taylor Wine Co. in Hammondsport from 1957 to 1984. Molly, at one time, was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, initiated into the Vine City chapter #356 in 1947, becoming Worthy Matron in 1957 and serving as Grand Representative of Nebraska near the Grand Chapter of N.Y. from 1962- 65. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Hammondsport, and a dedicated volunteer at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital, the Glenn Curtiss Museum, th e Hammondsport Chamber of Commerce, Little League and school systems for many years, in cluding the American Field Service (AFS) program that sponsored students from Japan and Italy during her term. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia (Jacob) von der Vorm of Arlington, Virginia; son, Randy Tyler of Hammondsport; grandsons, Stephen and Adam Tyler; sister, Kay Tietjen of Branchport; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Harland in 2003; and granddaughter, Amy Tyler in 1995. Services and interment in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Hammondsport, will be at the convenience of the family.
