Stop defacing anti-Wal-Mart signs

To the person or persons defacing anti-Walmart signs: please stop. Unlike the pro-Walmart signs that Bo Jeffries of Walmart's public relations firm, Public Strategy Group, Inc. (http://www.publicstrategygroup.com /), has been handing out at both public and private meetings here in Bath, our signs are all supplied by local residents, not paid for by the world's largest corporation. In fact, our large signs are made by hand: each one takes an hour and a half to create, the labor and materials generously donated by local volunteers. Despite The Courier's mischaracterization of the situation in their August 26th edition, the animosity is one sided. While anti-Walmart signs have been spray-painted, shredded, stolen, and dumped into the street, not one pro-Walmart sign has suffered the same fate -- even those placed illegally on the verge. No matter what your stance on Walmart, we're all neighbors. When the PR reps leave and the free pizza parties end, we're still going to have to get along. We can start right now by refusing to lower ourselves to petty vandalism.
