Possession

Sheriff's deputies last week charged Dwayne P. Hatter, 35 of Savona, with unlawful possession of marijuana after allegedly finding him in possession of marijuana following an altercation on state Route 415 in the Town of Bath. Hatter is to appear at a later date in Bath town court.

Rape

The Steuben County Grand Jury last week indicted Justin Nichols, 20, of 23 May St., Apt. 111, Bath with first degree rape for allegedly forcing a female to have sexual intercourse on June 14 in the Town of Campbell.

Petit larceny

Steuben County Sheriff's deputies on Aug. 20 charged Anthony Cagle, 19, of county Route 16 with one count of petit larceny. Cagle allegedly tried to steal gasoline from vehicles parked in a yard during the month of July. He is to appear at a later date in village court.

DWI

Raymond A. Bump, 41, of 5742 Bonny Road, Bath, last week was indicted for driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated. Bump allegedly operated a vehicle on March 2 in the Village of Bath with a blood alcohol level of .21 percent. He previously had been convicted of DWI on Oct. 26, 2006.

Drug related charges

Bath village police last week arrested two area men who had been indicted by the Steuben County Grand Jury on drug related charges.

Michael W. Oden, 32, of 5390 county Route 8, Avoca, was charged with thirddegree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He also was charged with fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Sherman L. Saunders, 54, of 201 E. Steuben St., Apt. 201, Bath, was charged with third degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Oden and Sherman were arraigned in Steuben County Court and remanded to the Steuben County Jail on $15,000 cash bail or a $30,000 property bond.

Their indictments followed a six-month investigation into the sale of prescription drugs in the Village of Bath.
