Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary of Unit 173 meets every second Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Charles Wescott Post on William St., Bath. The next meeting will be held on Oct. 8.

Communication problems?

The Center for Dispute Settlement is offering a free service to Steuben County residents to help with communication skills. The service is for residents under the age of 21. Services are confidential and a neutral person is available to help individuals.

Village of Bath Housing Authority Board

The Village of Bath Housing Authority Board will meet at 4 p.m. the forth Monday of every month (except where a Holiday occurs, then it will be held the week before.) The next meeting will be held on Sept. 24.

Dormann Library Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees of the Dormann Library will meet the second Monday of every month except where a holiday occurs then it will be the following Monday. They will hold their next monthly meeting at 5 p.m. Oct. 9 in the Empire Room of the Library Building, 101 W. Morris St., Bath.

Victims of Domestic Violence Women's Support Group

Victims of Domestic Violence Women's Support Group will meet from 6-7 p.m. Thursday evenings. The next meeting will be held Sept. 20.

Wine Country Toastmasters

Wine Country Toastmasters will beet the first and third Tuesdays of every month from 7-8:30 p.m. at the County Health Care Facility, Co. Rte. 113, Bath. The meeting will discuss enhancing communication and leadership skills. The next meeting will be held on Sept. 18.

Bath VA Walking Tours

To demonstrate the pride of the Bath VA, the Bath VA Dietetic Staff will conduct walking tours of the grounds every Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. until Sept. 29, 2007.

Veterans, employees, and their families as well as the general public are welcome to join the tours and there is not cost to participate.

American Red Cross course schedule

• A babysitting class will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Bath American Red Cross chapter office. The course is for youths ages 11-14. The course will teach responsibilities of a babysitter, accident prevention, emergency first aid, and how to prepare for a babysitting job. The cost is $40.

Help and support for homeschoolers

Bath Area LEAH (Loving at Education at Home) would like to extend an invitation to all new and seasoned homeschoolers to join then in the coming year for support and fellowship as we begin a new school year. LEAH is a Statewide nondenominational Christian organization that offers support, advice and opportunities to share with fellow homeschoolers at a local level. Beginning in September, Bath LEAH will meet on the last Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Bethel Assembly of God in Bath for a potluck with activities following.

Special Education Advocacy Training

The Advocacy Center announces Lay Advocacy Training for parents of children with developmental disabilities. The training will be held from 10:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. on Thursdays from Sept. 27-Nov. 15 in Bath. There is no fee for the training. Parents who complete this training may be asked to assist other families with advocacy issues in the year following the training.

The training prepares parents to better advocate for their own children and to assist other parents in their area with educational advocacy.

Savona Cinderella Softball

The Savona Cinderella Softball annual meeting, election of officers and picnic will be held at 1 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Savona Village Park.

Voters of Steuben County

Notice for the Voters of Steuben County. Anyone interested in being a possible replacement to work as an Election Inspector for the upcoming elections on the following dates, Sept. 18, Nov. 6, 2007 and Feb. 5, 2008.

Pageants

The Little Miss Finger Lakes Pageant and Miss Teen Finger Lakes Pageant will be held at noon Sept. 16 at the Local 1000 Union Hall, Corning.

There will be four age category pageants for girls between the ages of 4 and 17. There also will be a Little Mister Finger Lakes Pageant for boys between ages 4 and 7.

A benefit for Steve Jacobs will be held Sept. 16 from 10 a.m. to midnight at the Cohocton Legion. Family hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., adults only from 7-12 p.m. Donation is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Donation includes dinner, three bands and DJ. Music donated by Too Far Gone, Against Wind, DJ Howie Jamison. Dinner menue by Bob Fleishman will include Pulled pork, salt potatoes, baked beans, cole slaw and roll from 4:30- 6:30 p.m. A volleyball tournament will be held at 11 a.m., must register and be present by 1. Seeking cooks

Te Health Ministry of the Southern Tier Corning is seeking cooks for its Chili and Salsa Cookoff Sept. 29 in the Corning Centerway Parking Facility. The event will benefit the Health Minstry, which provides dental and medical services for the uninsured. It is being sponsored by Corning's Gaffer District, CASI, and various local businesses. participants can compete for freestyle chili, CASI (Chili Association Society International), salsa and best booth. Pre-registraion is required. There is a $15 entry fee.

2008 Annual Implementation Plan review

A public hearing for te purpose of reviewing the 2008 Annual Implementation Plan for the Older American's Act and the NYS Community Services for the Elderly Program in Steuben County will be held at 9 a.m. Sept. 27 in the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church, Pulteney Square, Bath. Building is handicapped accessible and provisions can be made for persons with hearing disabilities. Copies of the Plan will be available at the Office for the Aging, 3 East Pulteney Square, Bath by Sept. 25.

POW/MIA Ceremony

The Bath VA Medical Center will be hosting the annual formal Prisoner of War/Missing in Action (POW/MIA) Recognition Ceremony to be held at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at the VA Medical Center Recreation Building #92. Joining the Bath VA Medical Center staff will be the Owego VFW and Auxiliary 1371 Color Guard and members of the United Auto Workers Local 1097 Veterans Committee.

Seaplane Homecoming

The Seaplane Homecoming will be held Sept. 14, 15 and 16 at the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum. Registration is $10 per person. Must be registered to make reservations. Registration includes:

16th Annual Senior Forum

The 16th Annual Senior Forum will start at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 27 at the Presbyterian Church, Pulteney Square, Bath. Events include:

• From 8:30-9 a.m. continental breakfast

• From 9-9:40 a.m. public hearing

• From 9:50 a.m. to 12: 30 p.m. workshops

• From 12:30-1 p.m. lunch and entertainment

Luncheon served by ProAction with donations requested. Lunchtime entertainment provided by the Hon. Joe Latham at the piano. There is no charge for workshops. Workshops, (choice of two) are available on a firstcome, first-served basis. Parking lot attendants will be available for assistance.

Hurt: Today's Youth Culture

The workshop Hurt: Today's Youth Culture will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at St. Thomas' Church, 122 Liberty St., Bath. The workshop will be led by the Rev. Cynthia Sever, former Youth Missioner for the Episcopal Diocese of

Rochester. Youth leaders, parents, grandparents, teachers and anyone who would like to understand teens better is invited to come and learn about today's youth culture and what we as adults can do to help heal the hurt our youth experience on a daily basis and ensure a better future for young people an society as a whole.

Farm City Day

The Steuben County Farm City Day will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Bob and Nadeen Palmer's farm on County Route 27 in Howard. This year there will be a new feature. It is the tallest corn plant, biggest pumpkin, biggest tomato, longest zucchini, longest ear of corn, and, just for fun, the tallest weed and ugliest gourd grown in Steuben County. "Harvest Heartbeat for Ira"

The "Harvest Heartbeat for Ira" Arts & Crafts Fair scheduled for Saturday, October 13 will be held at a new location, the V.F.W. on Route 54 N. in Bath. Family Life Ministries celebrate 50th

Family Life Ministries will celebrate its 50th anniversary with live concerts and special performances starting Monday, September 24. The event will bring popular Christian musicians, comedians, and speakers to the area. There will also be opportunities to meet performing artists, hear

special testimonies, and participate in a book signing. Activities for kids will be available Saturday afternoon.

Tickets are still on sale for Monday, Sept. 24 and Saturday, Sept. 29 performances. Family Life Network presents Michael Card on Monday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. and Go Fish on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. Visit www.fln.org for more artist information.

Antique appraisals & sale

St. Thomas' Episcopal Church is hosting an Antiques Appraisal Fair and Sale on Saturday, Sept. 29. Quality dealers will offer their wares for sale from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. There is no admission to view the dealers' booths. Appraisers will appraise your valuables for $5 per item between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Appraisers will include Lon Knickerbocker (glass), Jim Goodling (all antiques but specializing in furniture, art, rugs), and Betty Rossi (general antiques, speciality in dolls, china, art & ephemera); there may also be a coin appraiser.

Between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., delicious food will be available for lunch including homemade desserts and BBQ chicken (take outs available).

A penny social and bake sale will be held from 1-4 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Charles E. Wescott American Legion, 14 W. William St., Bath. Tickets go on sale at 1 p.m. Drawing starts at 2 p.m. All proceeds go to benefit Jr.Auxiliary and Unit 173 Auxiliary programs. Donations of items can be left at Post Home prior to Sept. 28, (no clothes, shoes or broken items please.) Bake sale items can be brought in on Sept. 29. Raffles and door prizes will be available.
