Ira Davenport hosts first annual 10K race

BATH - More than 75 participants participated in the first annual Davenport & Taylor Wellness Walk and 10K Race Sept. 8 at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital.

The run/walk events were part of the hospital's wellness activities that included the Davenport & Taylor Health Fair., and the event raised nearly $2,500 to benefit the construction of a new Rehabilitation Services building at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital. All proceeds will be matched by a HEAL NY II Grant in 2007.

"The Wellness Walk/10K Race and the Health Fair provide Davenport & Taylor with a great opportunity to promote health and wellness in our community," said Megan Johnson, Director of Marketing and Community Relations for Ira Davenport Hospital. "We were delighted at the turnout for our first year and we are very much looking forward to next year."

In the Men's Division, Russell Derick, 39, of Bath, was first to cross the finish line. He came in with a time of 36 minutes, 16 seconds, followed by Brandon Smith, of Bath at 39:44, and Tom Jackson, 40, also of Bath, at 40:18.

Kelly Fitzpatrick, 41, of Bath, was the first in the Women's Division to cross the finish line, coming in eleventh overall with a time of 48:41. She was followed by Sharon Vanhooydonk, 40, of Corning at 50:33 and Jessica Roche, 30, also of Corning at 50:54.

In the Team Division a group of Steve Bailey, Anthony Smolos, Damian Buck, all of Hammondsport, and Nathaniel Gurnsey of Dundee took first place with a time of 48 minutes, 52 seconds. Coming in 2nd was the time of Beth Robbins and Donnette Wager of Kanona, Lisa Adams of Bath and Angie Cornish of Hammondsport with a combined time of 1:25:55. In 3rd place, with a time of 1:27:38 was Linda Musso and Lynn Goodwin of Hammondsport, Brenda Daggett of Prattsburgh and Gerti Densmore of Pultney.

The first-place winners each received a trophy donated to the race from By Brady.
