Steuben County Historical Society, St. Thomas Church to provide tastes of history Sept. 29 Fans of local history can enjoy a day of classic antiquities Sept. 29 when the Steuben County Historical Society hosts a tour of six historic properties and St. Thomas Episcopal Church hosts an antiques appraisal fair and sale. The Historical Society's tour will be from noon to 5 p.m. and will feature the following homes and properties: • Old National Hotel, 11 East Steuben Street •. Partridge House, 217 East Steuben Street • Gibson House, 131 East William Street • Walczak House, 19 Allen Street • Lyke-Faulkner House, 123 West Morris Street • Valkenburgh-Schlecter House, 120 West Washington Street The Historical Society also asks that visitors respect the privacy of each property's owners and refrain from smoking, taking photos, handling furniture or objects, entering restricted areas or bringing children under the age of 12 on the tour. St. Thomas' antiques appraisal fair and sale will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature professional antique deals and appraisers. Appraisers will assess the value of visitors' antiques for $5 per item between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The appraisers will include Lon Knickerbocker (glass), Jim Goodling (all antiques but specializing in furniture, art, rugs), and Betty Rossi (general antiques, specialty in dolls, china, art & ephemera); there may also be a coin appraiser. Between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m, food will be available for lunch including homemade desserts and BBQ chicken (take outs available). There also will be selfguided tours of the historic church, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Ample parking is available next to the church and a handicap ramp acceses the show entrance. St. Thomas is located on Liberty Street at the intersection of Liberty and Washington Streets in the heart of Bath. |
