Gerald "Gary" Dallas Yates
CROOKED RIVER RANCH, OREGON - Mr. Gerald "Gary" Dallas Yates, 74, a Resident of Crooked River Ranch, Oregon passed away Sept. 4, 2007.
Mr. Yates was born in Atlanta, NY, on Dec. 4, 1932 to Frank and Thelma Yates.
He was raised in Bath and graduated by Haverling High School in 1951.
He served in the Marines in the 1st Air wing Division Between 1952-1955. He married Karla Keeney in Henry's Fork, Idaho on July 21, 1979. He worked in National Park Services at Glacier National Park and Pecos National monument in Santa Fe, New Mexico then retiring in 1995. He worked as a cowboy on Ranches in the West.
He was an Author of two books: Summits and Trails and Jess. Gary and Karla both climbed and hiked in Glacier National Park, Cascades, Rocky Mountains, Canadian Rockies, New England, Scotland, Volcanoes in Mexico, Himalayas in Nepal, and other places. Gary was an avid runner and bicyclist. Gary was a true Renaissance man. He also played guitar and violin. He was actively involved with Osher Life long learning, Sierra Club.
Survivors include his wife Karla Yates of Crooked River Ranch, Oregon; one step daughter Julie Brown of Pocatello, Idaho; three bothers, Robert Yates of Avoca, NY, Victor Yates of Pittsford, NY, and David Yates of Savona, NY.
