Wal-Mart would lower average family's bills
To the Editor,

One should have empathy for the storeowner from Albion (Steuben Courier August 26, 2007) who had to close his business because of competition with other stores in his area. I'm sure with stores like Wal-Mart and their buying power he would find it difficult to buy items at rock bottom prices for his customers. Change is difficult, it can be costly, and it can be painful but change has its rewards. How does a family in one of the poorest counties in New York prepare for the new school year? They go to the malls, or other stores that are at least 35 miles away, where they spend money in counties that don't benefit the Town of Bath, and use gasoline, which costs almost $3 a gallon. If you would like to see just how much the average family can save by shopping at a Wal-Mart check out their site: Walmartfacts.com. Why shouldn't the citizens of Bath be entitled to the same discretionary money others have?
